 These are Ruddy Ducks. Males, in winter plumage. Like the Ring-necks I had seen some at a big lake and was unable to get decent pictures of them, so to find them at a smaller lake was pretty exciting. It took me forever to ID them after I saw them the first time because most illustrations on ID sites use breeding plumage, which in this case is a pretty drastic change (their bodies go red-brown and their beaks bright blue). I would love for some of them stick around till they change color but it looks like we are only part of their winter range (and the northernmost bit at that, so I'm lucky to see them at all!).

I love the light in this shot. It's interesting that the colours of the ducks are not much different to those of the geese, whereas in your previous shot two of a kind were so different.
