Thank you all for your votes and kind comments. Thanks to my friends and models Enzo (the aggressor) and Jorge (the victim) for working hard during the shoot, it took about 15-20 shots to get it right. Please visit Jorge's website to learn about his artistic talents.

Those acquainted with Joey Lawrence's work will recognize this scene as one he shot for a music band, only his execution was infinitely superior to mine.

Congrats on a well-deserved ribbon. I don't know Joey's version (nor Dave Hill's), but this stands alone. Such violence captured. Kudos to your actors, it really looks like the victim took a punch.

Wow!! I was not aware that David Hill had done it first, I am only familiar with the JL shot, my apologies to David and thanks for bringing it to my attention. Thanks for for your comment as well.

I really hoped this would win, it is superb and a great retake on the original. I mean seriously who would vote this photo a 1,2,3 or even a 4 within the context of this challenge. There can be no justification for that IMHO?

CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER ON THIS WELL DESERVED RIBBON!!
What a wonderful execution. I am glad that those isanely low votes did not affect your final position. Hmmm...still trying to figure out why the avg vote from participants was more than .2 lower than the avg from non participants. Any guesses out there? Maybe those one's and two's came from that group?

Saw the original brown. Yours is a BIG improvement. You have set it up in a very realistic manner. I like the way the "sweat" flies from the guys hair as his chin absorbs the impact from the blow. Also the way his face contorts and the real looking blood. (Sure this wasn't for real?) lol Would have been great if there was blood and spittle flying from his mouth as well.
The lighting is tops too as are the details and the colors. 9

is that an actual punch? I hope you paid that guy or something haha. good picture. The lighting on the attacker makes him look especially menacing.

Okay, THIS one is doing the job! This is taking the original concept and remaining entirely faithful to it while creating a dramatically better image. This is VERY nicely made and it spot-on meets the challenge. I have only voted 4 so far, but I'm wondering how many entries will accomplish both things: excellent image, and genuine attempt to rework the original theme.

A 9 for now, and it's not inconceivable it will end up as a 10.

Awesome!!! I had a similar idea for this entry but didn't have the time or people to do it. I'm glad I didn't now though as I wouldn't have done it as well as this, great attention to detail, well done

I hope this earns a ribbon it deserves it! You have obviously put in a lot of time and effort. This type of image would normally make me feel uncomfortable and it still does in a small way but i can still recognise the talent it takes to produce such a strong image.
