Took a picture of 10 crayons on white paper, with my right thumb and forefinger, then printed that image, placed 6 more crayons on that, with my same thumb and forefinger and took the shot again.

This is the worst! 6 ones! Really! 17 twos and 46 threes??? What about LOOKING at the picture? I screwed up at least three major issues in this illusion. 5 seconds is not enough time for any kind of illusion, good or bad. Bahhhhh!
Could anyone from the lower three score grouping say what was "bad" about this?

no matter how much I look, I still can't see the illusion! damn that's awesome! great job swash!

This is the problem with having too perfect an illusion! Yours was in my top 10. Sorry the rest of the voting folks totally missed it.

I admit, that I don't get your illusion. I just see 16 crayons. Why "6 or 16"? -stephan

Took me ages to spot. Im not sure the denument was worth all that staring. I really didnt get any sense of unease that a good illusion should have. Perhaps bunching the real crayons in the center, or having some other clue would have helped.

looks like 16

what's the illusion?
10/30/2002 01:15:00 PM
okay, i'll bite - what's the big deal about a bunch of crayons? your illusion is so life-like that i can't see anything out of the ordinary. i'll wait for the comments to figure out what i'm missing, i'm pretty sure it's just a little over my head. administrator note: why would this picture be invalid?
10/30/2002 11:54:00 AM
I finally got it! (I think ...) Excellent illusion! Here's my list of 'real' crayons:
jungle green, robins egg blue, radical red, blizzard blue, green yellow, white
Wonder if I'm right.

Please explain the illusion at the end.

You definitely pulled off an illusion here. I had to blow this one up in PS and scrutinize it closely, but I do see anomolies in some of the crayons' size and perspective... not sure exactly what you did, but I think it might be a little bit too good for the normal viewing size of the image in a browser....very good effort.

the title throws me off.

Fooling the administrator sure makes this a very good illusion.

After much study, discussion, and deliberation, I am afraid you may have done such a good job that you will earn yourself a lower score than you deserve. However, you fooled me completely (had to find someone to explain it to me). 10 karmat

Okay, this is excellent, but I think you are going to lose out because of your own success/ creativity. You've done this 'too well' in that it is really hard to tell that some of these are printed on the background. I can only tell because I saw the details field in the admin notes, otherwise I didn't have a clue even after looking for quite a while - Gordon

The illusion is...?
10/29/2002 11:10:00 AM
It took me a while to figure this one out.. lol... I can finally see the crayons that are printed and the six that are real... real: jungle green, egg blue, radical red, green/yellow, white, orchid ? excellent illusion... now.. the lightin could have really punched harder on this photo... do you have white balance settings? After creating such a great illusion, I would have spent some time working on the lighting to whiten up the background and make these color jump hard :) - setzler

10/28/2002 05:04:00 PM
i count 16 in total, but only 6 in focus. Is that the illusion?
10/28/2002 03:53:00 PM
Um... 16? I have a feeling that you did some sort of trick here somewhere, but I honestly don't know what the illusion might be...? - alansfreed

This is such a clever illusion that we cannot figure it out. 8 JEM

Very nice. I like how you used your thumb twice. The color seems to be a bit red (on the right thumb). Focus looks good. Great work on the shadows. Makes it really hard to tell which are "live" and which are "memorex". Lighting is very good. 9 waltoml...

Let me guess, the thumb on the left is real along with 6 crayons, while the thumb on the right and the other crayons are a picture. Very clever, almost fooled me.

Not sure of the illusion here. The lighting seems a bit drab... maybe mess with the color levels some? I don't know. bamaster (6)
