Thanks for all the kind comments, though I do wish the folks who voted one and two had left a comment too.
I forgot to describe how I set up the shot so in answer to some questions here goes. I bought a large block of ice at the store, which sadly was too milky but next time Ill know, I used a blow torch to create a bowl and poured in about 3 cc of gasoline. I put the block in front of a black backdrop and on sone black paper with a square cut out which was on top of a peice of plexiglass with blue plastic on it to get the cold light, under which was a drop light in a cardboard box. I took the shots centered and cropped them slightly off to give it a less static look. I took about thirty shots over four rounds of adding gas and igniting and was pleased to have not set the garage on fire.

Very cool capture. The flames are just wonderful - I like how they form a bit of cup shape jsut like the ice does in the center. The colors are really nice.

This is perhaps one of the best photos of "fire and ice" in the whole challenge. Good job!

One of several "fice and ice" submissions - but one that is a techical gem. Your choice of a black background was perfect for this setup. Keep up the nice work.

Saw a lot of this idea, but this was the best. Great effect, nice balance, and how'd you get that cool internal glow at the bottom?

Great job on the lighting underneath the ice. I would like to have this one on a wall.

the flame is realy nice. i like the reflection of the light on the ice as well, it adds a cold, bluish colour

awesome .. but there is more space to the left of the image than the right, not sure if that is intentional

Although fire with ice is a cliched subject in this challenge the colors of the ice and how you captured the flame really makes photo stand out to me. A very well done shot. 8

At last, this one I like! Shows the ice well, plus the fire isn't taking over the whole shot, lighting is great, colours are great... Well done! Full marks!

Classic idea, but the angle could be better. Just needed some more work.
Still a lot better than many in this contest.
