Challenge: Ansel Adams II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Orange County, Southern California
Date: Jan 19, 2009
Aperture: 16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/20
Galleries: Landscape, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jan 15, 2009

This is a hillside near my home, it's covered in Opuntia, as are many of the undeveloped hillsides. It's busy but I love the movement and lines down the path, along with the dramatic sky which just adds to the prickly Opuntia.

POW addition:

Well, this is my Ansel Adam entry. I could not believe the clouds that morning. The majority of the county was under this blanket. It's my favorite of the week, so in to my POW collection it goes for week 5.

Only you Ben can turn the sky into an ocean!

That impressive cloud cover does a lot for this one. I like the huge DOF too. We call those cacti "prickly pear" here, and the local Mexican Americans like to cook and eat them.

I've only got my mobile at the moment so I will come back to this amazing image later. But even on the small screen you can tell that this shot is great! And those clouds are incredible.

Oh, WOW beauty. I didn't vote in this challenge and I have not got time to browse all Ansel Adamsa entries yet. But this is amazing. Great tones. I think by the end of the year, you will have amazing B&W gallery.

Excellent. The range of grey tones, the contrast between the cactus and clouds, the DOF, all of it. Good stuff.

Quit cheating! :-) But since I didn't get a chance to vote in this challenge, it is nice to get a chance to see this now, so I guess it's OK...

Fantastic photo.

Clouds like these are my favorite here on the west coast where we don't get much in the way of storm clouds. There's something breath taking to have these blanketing the whole sky above.

PAW - Nice three tier shot with good focus on all three planes. Interesting clouds; I don't recall any like that in San Diego back then.

Great sky. Interesting subject. Nice PP work. It almost looks like the cacti are indoors because of the density of the clouds.

What a wonderful adventure looking at all the textures and varied elements within this image. Hmmmm, trying to pick it apart and am finding elements that can be mentioned but I'd just be a jerk. Nah ...... this is top 3 for sure! 8
