Well, as an astronomer and avid sky watcher, I certainly appreciate this image! We get a lot of these in New Mexico too. This is indeed a beautiful solar halo, and I know what you mean about not being able to fit the whole thing in the image; it wasn't until I got a wide angle lens that I could manage it :-) BTW, this is a solar halo, not a sundog; sundogs are little colored spots of refracted light that occur in specific orientations, often ocurring along with a solar halo, but often without a solar halo. Whatever, this is a lovely image! |

There must be a natural phenomena that I am not familiar with, the odd circle in the sky and the light burst in the lower left make this a little surreal. I don't find the composition particularly appealing. |
