I like 'People and their Living, or call it LIFE'; so taking people-pictures is a process I find most fascinating. So there was no way I was going to miss this challenge. I just regretted one small fact that this challenge was announced 3 days later, for I had met a very fine elderly lady (some 90 years old) and shot some of her picture last Sunday at a dinner.

So, that meant I had to redo this kind of shoot. But I decided to go outdoors for this one. So, this Saturday, I woke up a bit earlier than usual and took my 70-200 4L IS (Wonderful lens, and I hadn't used it much since it arrived) for a morning round around the place I live. Fortunately, this place if full of life, and always buzzes with people, and I enjoy interacting with them. Most of them are open and happy about their pictures being taken; this also makes my job easier, in a way. Nothing to beat a 'Willing model'. :-)

This shot was taken during one such sojourn. I liked the liveliness of this person, so I zeroed on his picture after downloading all that I had captured and viewing them on my monitor.

I hope you will enjoy the picture. Good scores are, just a nice bonus. Of course. :-)

Happy New Year to All!

Love
Vikram

Post-Post

I am so happy to get a good score on a people-portrait. I wish I can find this man someday and hand-over a copy of the picture to him. I knew him only for few minutes, and we only exchanged smiles.

Thank you everyone for your comments and appreciations. I must apologize for the blown-own high-lights on the turban, which some of you did not like. My excuse is this - I wanted to get the face right, during curve(contrast) adjustment and since I cannot do selective burn in basic editing, I let the turban blow out.

This challenge has so many good entries that I feel humbled. I shall be studying them for the rest of my day.

Good Day!

~Love~
Vikram

Your b&w conversion is so pleasing: very strong and dramatic. I love the composition, with the end of the turban framing his face. Very interesting subject too. Congratulations on the well deserved ribbon.

This is an awesome portrait Vikram! And you sound like me about loving to shoot people and not wanting to miss this challenge. I didn't even realize it was going on until the very last day when I went looking for my "face" :) So glad we both found one :)

CONGRATULATIONS!

I like the eye contact and the composition. Very good detail too. The blown highlight is a little distracting though. 7

Classic shot. Very powerful subject, contrast, b/w. The horizontal lines behind them really work well to complement the lines in his head wrap and shirt.

It's a great picture, but, honestly, he doesn't look that old to me.

Great shot. One of the better entries. The contrast seems to be just a bit too much on this one - the skin tones are pretty dark vs the turban being a bit blown out. Masterful use of a great BG. Incredible piercing expression.

I like the texture in this shot and the B&W just make it feel "older"

Great eyes and expression! I love this shot! I think I'd like it better with a little less contrast but still a great shot!
