Shot from the conference room where I work. I notice this interesting reflection everytime I am in here for a meeting, and we get a great view of the rising sun from here. I thought this challenge was a good opportunity to capture the scene better than I had done with my phone-cam a couple of weeks ago.
Quite a difference in sharpness and dynamic range between the phone cam and the SLR!
I also did some shots zoomed in on downtown Dallas. They are interesting, with a nice glow behind the city, but the images were just too soft at 300mm to do well in a challenge.
Pre-challenge notes:
This is going to be a tough challenge, since gorgeous sunrises/sunsets are easy to get, any entry will need to have something different to make it stand out. Hopefully this one has it. Expected critiques may have to do with my choice of crop. I didn't like a dead center placement, but the symmetric nature of the image didn't work with a rule of thirds placement either. If that lightpole was not in the scene, I may have cropped it a little shorter vertically. The lightpole is too much a part of the scene to remove it without violating challenge rules, however.
Post-challenge notes:
Didn't hit any magic with this one, but I knew it would be a tough challenge, and I find it pleasing. I think I was successful in adding a little something different to my entry.
As always, it would be nice to get some feedback from the people who thought it was a poor effort. (only 5 people gave my entry a 3 this time, and no 1's or 2's. That's a good thing) |
