A piece of moldy wood and some rusty nails. the color contrasts were what drew me to this one. Resized and sharpened.

My first impression is that this shot seems a little flat. This is probably caused by the flat lighting resulting in an absence of shadows, and by the green and brown colors. Increasing saturation of the orange channel would have given more 'pop' to the rust.

On second look, you have an excellent capture of the texture of the wood, which makes this an interesting image to look at. I like the curves in the wood leading to the nails. I would have liked to see a bit more wood to the right of the nails (but that may not have been possible at all, I realise), to give more support on the right part of the frame. Focus is good, the major part of the image is nicely crisp and sharp, with some softness to the left.

In summary: a good and interesting image, that could have improved a bit by color adjustment.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about this comment.

Autool: didn't touch the piece of wood, simply took the shot.

Amsmyth: as the notes above will tell you, "a bit of PS" was not involved. It was simply resized and sharpened.

Everyone: Thank you for your comments!

It appears that you turned it from its natural attitude, making the rust run up instead of down. Also a bit oversharpened.

Great cropping--makes it interesting.

the sweep and softness of this are very appealing - certainly meets challenge and has real originality (a bit of PS too, I think)

Lovely find. Well composed, I love the grain and the folds of the wood as they lead the eye to the rusted spikes. Good work.

I like the pattern in the wood. Very nice.
BTW...your title sounds like two new band names..."next week at American Airlines Center..Moldy Wood with opening act Rusty Nails!"

You must have looked long and hard to find this lovely composition. It's a good take on the Challenge and pleasing to look at as well. Nice!

Composition very well done. All the lines seem to lead you right to the rusty nails. Good exposure, but the flat lighting was not your friend. It may really pop with better lighting. Still, a very strong entry. Keep it up.

There's a nice feeling to this picture--lovely contrast between the smoothness of the wood and the texture of the nails. Seems a bit on the bright side in the highlights, though. (And I believe that's moss there, not mold.)
