Congrats on this fine capture. Great work here!
Made my top10. I didn't guess it to be yours. The concept is wonderfully executed. The way you composed the shot, the part of the painting with the birds section floating above the woman's head , it just says it all. I agree with Judy about about the bucket. Seems kind of invasive. Maybe if it was a smaller one or just out of the shot? All in all it's a minor nitpick.
Yep, she's thinking of flying the coop... Very fun shot - and I do think that this one in B&W, followed by the next one, followed by one of just her going out the door (or something) would make an excellent series.
Subversive and sly - has all the appearance of being a typical slick and empty ad shot, until we get knocked over by subtext. Having read your other comments, I'm trying to decide which would have been "better" - color or b&w - and I think I prefer the color; in a sense, if it were more 'classic', in b&w, we'd lose sight of the contrast between slickness/kitsch and the subtext.
I knew this was yours, i should have guessed. I thought this was better than most ahead of you and when I heard you talk about your score I was pretty surprised to hear, I am not sure what could be better, I gave you a ten. I really like the processing, I'll have to bug you to see how you do it. :P
the 2nd of 2 that just seems way surreal in an indescribable way. Yet this one has a mundane quality that places it somewhere in the ether. The poses here are of much mystery and timeless intrigue.
BAck for more - Reminds me of Hitchcck perhaps due to the era and the deatached woman.
I like this one quite a bit. The birds are so great as counter focal points. The man's look is great as is the woman's. What are they thinking? Does she want to get out? Is she bored? Is he hiding his lust behind that blank stare? Is it concern? Anyway, I like how this pulls me in. 9 Bumped to one of my 3 10s.
Great concept, nice even lighting. There is something about the female model's pose that strikes me as a little awkward and doesn't quite convey the feel you seem to have been going for - but I like where you're going with it so it's still an 8 from me.
fascinating scene - feels a little over-lit, with too much white (given the mood) - make sit feel too posed, IMHO. But maybe that contrast was your intention... I really like the choice in models here - they're expressions are spot on - as is the wardrobe & make-up... -- 8 --
Wow! I love this set-up and composition. The way both models are dressed is very appropriate for the shot. Him thinking and while fixated on her and her looking away with an excellent expression is just awesome. I love it!
The painting in the background makes it all come together. Without a doubt: 10!
this type of image baffles/intrigues me. it is very clever and well done. but it is almost too technically perfect not to have been set up. (i personally prefer the pursuit of the imperfect image, where the photographer has control over nothing more than the camera.)
I know this is supposed to be too slick for my taste, but I love this. It's almost campy in its sharp perfection, and the integration of the artwork into her thoughts and dreams is very nicely done.
I just can't say enough about this.. The emotion, the lighting, the composition, the old fashioned looking post processing. I've only given out a handful of 10's in all of the time I've been here, but this is one of them for sure.
Awesome... almost like a negaqtive norman rockwell... The only thing I could think of that could be changed is to fire a strobe at the corner of the floor and wall so as to eliminate all shadows. The purple background shadows are my only possible negative... very thought prevoking! (the only way to get a ten from me is to make me think: I wish I woulda taken that shot!)and this one does that! ... this one of two, that made me think that in this challenge!
Lighting is superb in this photo. Now what I am about to crow about is the mood and the composition you have captured here. I love how this picture tells a story! Here we have the typical dinner date that is usually the start point to get to know each other and a possible romance. But the relationship is anything but in this photo. The gentleman is striking a "The Thinker" pose as he looks at the lady trying his hardest to try to figure her out. His hand rests on the table but she has removed hers out of reach so that he cannot 'reach' out and touch her/hold hands. Not only is she out of his reach and removed but her 'mind' is 'flying' elsewhere. A truly WONDERFUL touch is that painting that has the birds positioned right above here head. It signals that she is not mentally present and that she has 'flown the coup'. She is already looking elsewhere for her Mr. Right is not sitting at the table and there are no 'sparks' whatsoever. I really hope to see this in the top 5. Your storytelling composition, attention to details, model expressions, and lighting are a bang up 10!
Really like the concept here. Lighting is good, props are well chosen. I believe, the angle you took hurts the idea, a straighter approach with the focal plane parallel to the wall with the image had had more impact. Overall there's a purplish cast, but not enough to look as if it was there on purpose. A tad too much softening IMO.
I'm not the typical DPC voter but I'd much prefer this in BW. Wish the champagne bucket wasn't cropped off. Love the story and juxtaposition between the man and woman's expressions and positions in the shot.
