Thank you for all of the nice compliments and constructive remarks. This plant has a very long curving stem and so I tucked the flower up into this ivy to hold it still so I could take its picture - wasn't comfortable blurring the background, didn't want to get disqualified. Thanks again for the comments. Since this was my first entry, I have a little more idea of what to look for next time.

beautiful, shame top left of flower out of focus - excellent composition, colour and lighting. I like it.

very pretty. lots of curves here. I would have liked a little more in focus but thats just my opinion.

Wonderful macro, great depth

Beautiful coloring.

I love orchids! The framing is uncomfortable on this, though... I would have tried a horizontal composition.

Well lit. Bits of the flower are chopped from the frame. Taken from a different angle, or at a different time of day may have sorted out the busy background.

good clarity...I'm glad you didn't worry about getting the entire subject in the shot...a nice picture!

no, no, not just another flower shot to be whatever you want it to be. Red, curves, nature.....not original enough as a straight shot like this.

Beautiful. I really like this.

Very nice.

Wow...I like this photo. Nice colors. :)

Absolutely beautiful with curves!

nice shot, I know there are a few who will say they don't like the flower shots, but I love flower shots! Nice color and texture, I feel you captured the theme well. The only flaws are a little out of focus at the top and the framing is a little off. I would have had more of the flower showing on the top and right side. Plus maybe a little more blur to the background.

A shallower depth of field would improve this image to me. That would put the background out of focus a bit and could be accomplished with a lower fStop (aperature.)

a lovely flower

Very pretty, looks almost surreal. Good job.

this is a very interesting flower. nice shot. good focus and composition. i'm not much of a fan of generic flower shots, but this is well done.

amazing clarity. so crisp you could eat it.

Nice photo. Would have liked to have seen you avoid the blown highlights and the unnatractive background. The lower left petal is close to perfect in exposure in my opinion. I scored it high.

Gorgeous color and lighting, the orange thing in the upper right corner distracts me just a little bit.
04/08/2002 03:15:00 PM
nice color and angle. good detail in the lines.
04/08/2002 03:11:00 PM
Great detail and near perfect focus, but it feels suspended in mid-air. Maybe a curvey stalk would help?
04/08/2002 12:50:00 PM
awesome closeup, great job!

The detail you have captured in this photo is very nice. The background in this shot is blurred out nicely with the shallow depth of field. You may want to try this photograph again sometime with a black piece of paper behind the flower to really bring the flower out. Even thought the background is blurred, it is 'busy' with activity... I think I can see an orange garden hose maybe?

Pretty flower shot. Bit too tight on the right side, and top petal.
04/08/2002 12:22:00 AM
Lovely, but would have been better if the top-left of the flower was also in focus.
