I really, really, really think everyone is super picky about the mercury/alcohol thing. This was my favorite.

interesting that your subject takes up such a small portion of your photograph.

Great dramatic lighting and composition, but 80? It's a bit of an anti-climax. Mid-teens or 120 plus would be more appropriate, unless it's Celsius...
Processing is spot on.

That would be alcohol with red dye in it.

Hmmmmm Must be that red dye that they use in foods. It's a good idea but it would be better if it were real mercury.

very cool macro shot!!

Technically this is not a Mercury based thermometer. I'm not going to mark down for that though. I like the processing on this and I'm not usually a fan of vignetting but it really works well here.

Mercury is not red...

Nice picture, great detail, but the thermometer is full of alcohol and not mercury... but, yes I'll say that thermometers do normally make me think of mercury. Actually choosing an alcohol thermometer makes the picture a lot more interesting with the striking colour, so I like it, well done.

Ah, but it's not, is it?

It is mercury indeed and it is sharp. But to me this looks more like a stock photo. It does help it a little though that it is an older thermometer and that it is not completely straight.

Nice macro, but if it's red it's not mercury (sorry for splitting hairs).

Great capture, however you did not photograph a mercury thermometer but rather an alcohol thermometer. When the liquid is red the thermometer is an alcohol thermometer and has a lower temperature range than a mercury thermometer which the liquid inside would then be metallic.

But like I said before, otherwise great capture

Mecurcy is silver. The red thermometers are usually alcohol. I like the pic though!

A very strong image with great color and composition, but your score will probably get hit for DNMC since mercury is silver (this is tinted alcohol).

yeah, we typically think of mercury as silver, don't we? Nice idea and good capture. Very well edited.

I don't think that's mercury... But everything else is great, especially the vignette, the nice diagonals, the "dirty streaks", perfect DOF,...

would have worked if it was a mercury thermometer..:)

nice idea and good macro - but it is alcohol and not mercury...

I like this idea and the picture looks good. However, mercury isn't red. Most likely alcohol and red dye.

simple item, but a nice picture, I like the color contrast and the angle of the mercury on the image.

Sorry this isn't mecury it's alcohol

this one looks more like the alcohol-filled thermometer, but I get the point. I'm not sure if they ever color the Hg in thermometers... that aside, nice take on the challenge.
