This family recently suffered a tremendous loss. One of the granddaughters, age 22, passed away very unexpectedly. My wife, known to DPC as karmat, had already scheduled this photo shoot when the death occurred a few weeks back. Needless to say, this "Thanksgiving reunion" for this family was very difficult. It's a few weeks early because schedules get difficult in late November, and this is one of very few photos of the entire group.

The lighting here is terrible. We know that. This is actually Karma's setup, posing, etc., I simply climbed up on the picnic table and made the pic. It was her "shoot", but I took two pictures because she's deathly afraid of heights.

Thank the good Lord for RAW. :)

icu1965 - That is the understatement of the year. He is the sweetest kid imaginable but is absolutely a blast.

The kid in the striped shirt looks like he could be quite the character!

In spite of all, it's still a great image for its memories.

Sometimes the art & science of photography have to take a back seat to the necessity of posterity.

Nicely done, and I hope everyone gets a copy to remember.

How sad to lose somebody so young. What I see here is a family full of life. Good job blaming the setup on your wife - I'll have to keep that one in mind. :)

That is quite the family! Wow they have alot of people to get together. It's nice to see families this big still having everyone get together for pictures/dinners/etc. A shame to hear about their loss, I'm sure having everyone together was good for all of them though.

Families can provide a lot of strength. Great that you all were able to get together. So difficult as our families grow.

This reminds me of the last reunion my family had. It was for the loss of our eldest member - my great-grandmother passed away just shy of 100 years! I wasn't able to go to the funeral/reunion because I was out of the country for school, but I know that at such a time having your family around can be a great lift to the spirit.

First, I am so sorry for your loss. You have, however, captured what seems to be a happy, loving moment here. I can only image how important these images will be for these family members from this day forward. Great job! (I'm afraid of heights too, and could not for love or money stand on a picnic table to shoot a picture)

You recovered some of the details nicely! Wish it had been cloudy.
