I haven't quite decided fully the track this side challenge will lead, but I was thinking a poster containing multiple images. We will see if the collection of flowers I find will lead me there

Processing: Levels, selective color, noise ninja, crop and rotate, save for web, USM post resize.

Yes...it is a petunia

The selective focus was chosen to highlight the stamen. I chose this approach as the stamen are often difficult to see in petunias and are overwhelmed by the rest of the flower. I can understand the complaints about the shallow DOF, but it is what I was looking to do...so there!

I love the close square crop you've used on this and the color is just wonderful!

I second what Caroline69 has to say and add beautiful colours - looks almost abstract

I like the contrast between a sharp stamen and the rest of the flower. I don't know though if I'd prefer more dof or softer focus on the flower.

The focus is dead on where you wanted and it makes the rest of the image become more graphic and less picture like. It looks like little dots floating on a psychedelic sea of pink and lime green. I love it!

This is an interesting pic, I like the sharpness of the stamens, but find the flower itself could use a bit more DOF. It's just a little bit too soft for my taste.

Now i'm going to be looking for the stamens in petunies..You are right they aren't noticeable.. Have never seen a petunia i didn't like including this one right up close like one had a magnifying glass..

Great contrasting colors. I think I'd like to see more or a greater dof.

Great experiment!
I love doing stuff like that to just see what happens. The colors are extreme but that makes your eyes want to rest in the center where is neutral. Works well here.

Shows there is something for everyone. I like the really shallow DOF on this image.

I really like to see the close detail in floral shots (must be why I always liked Georgia O'Keefe's work). There is one small thing that I keep coming back to and sort of wish you cloned out ... that one speck on the lower right part of the white. With the beautiful green popping so much that one speck seems to keep dragging my eye away from it.
Having said that I must say that I really really like the tight view and the green and pink sure brighten up my day.

I'm not fond of the super tight DOF, so there!

=)

I actually think including a bit of the green in the DOF would have helped accentuate the stamen. Right now the DOF is so tight that you overlook the stamen all together. There's not enough to stop your eye from passing over it at this size. If this image were blown up and on a wall it would probably be fine.

I like the splash of green in the middle of this. I also like these photos where the stamens are in focus. Kind of wish that one on top would peek it's head out and be lit up like the two lower ones.

Cool shot with beautiful colours. Dof is perfect for this very well done image.

The color is breathtaking, and just jumps off the page at me.
I also love the 'rule of thirds' composition very much, as all the leading lines lead to one point, to the jewel in the center.

Thanks you for sharing this floral image with us.
Our journey has just begun.....

Nice! Pink petunias are among my favorites & this square crop showcases the color beautifully. I am interested to know what guided your decision for the selective focus--to showcase the green jewel in the center?

Love the abstractiveness (not sure if that's a real word, lol) of this! Vibrant colors! The middle almost seems like little diamonds set in.

I do find the small bits of flowers quite interesting, especially when I would ordinarily overlook them because the petals are so showy. I think I would like a touch more DOF, though.

Love the tight crop but I'd like to see a bit more DOF. Is this a petunia? I always find them difficult to photograph.

Interesting. This is one of those images where the thumbnail promises very nice things.
And then the full image delivers!
Gorgeous colors, and super composition.
