It's wild that this tree's roots found a way to the earth's soil. They just split the rock open.

When I asked my friends and family for a subject for this challenge this is the one they chose. I couldn't get to where there was one, so thank you! I'll point them here.

Photographically speaking, I don't feel the tipped angle of the tree trunk supports the theme so well. And, for me, the use of sepia tone detracts--I wonder did the subject need that treatment? Contrast, focus, crop,--right on as far as I'm concerned. Luck

I'm not sure if I like the sepia, I would like to see this in b&w to compare. Nice photo, though, really good idea.

Very nice. Excellent use of sepia to give it a very earthy tone.

I love the subject. It really fits the challenge. IMO the focus seems a little soft. Maybe a little post processing sharpening would help.

Wow very interesting photo. I think the sepia gave it character, nice choice for this. Hope you posted where this was taken, I really like it.

Good capture... I think a lower perspective would have made the composition much stronger. It took me a moment to realize exactly what it was I was looking at.

The border is a bit thick for this. I have been accused of many "bad borders" So I'm sure that this photo will be rated lower because of the border. However, putting the border aside and not the photo. The sepia reminds me of old time photos where everyone was "strong" hence the stregnth challenge, the subject of a tree growing around a boulder is also very strong. I like the photo and rate it an 8. But the border that is a bit to bold for this photo.

I loved this and hoped that we would see more photos depicting nature overcoming obstacles like this. I like the sepia quality. I wish it were slightly sharper.

Trees do display enormous power and strength. Did this root grow through the rock that was there long before the tree was, or was there evidence that the root expanded and caused this part of the rock to "flake" off from the larger part?

Would've liked this a bit sharper, but great shot for the challenge nonetheless.
