The sun was brutal and this longhorn was grazing in a nearby field. I converted to sepia and did a subtle layer of a stucco wall, also in sepia, to help the blown out sky and give it some dimension.

Gotta love layering with textures to save a blown out sky. That is an impressive beast! Our cattle just have plain old horns out here in the east.

Those longhorns are amazing animals aren't they!?! You really don't see them around my parts...they probably don't take well to a colder climate. I really like the great sense of depth to this...in fact, if it weren't for that old longhorn, I could walk off into that pasture right now.

The stucco wall makes the image, as you elude to, get some dimension. Very subtle yet highly effective.

I like the subject, and the light in this shot. The toning brings out the light in the tall grass heads nicely. This is a good example of taking an ordinary rural scene up to the next level with your processing skills.

I've been transported back to early twentieth century Texas.

I hope there was a fence between you and this critter.

Well done treatment.

Just a suggestion: While he shows off nicely in this center pose, I do wonder if he would also look good off to one side, perhaps in the lower right third of the image. There's room in the composition, I think.

The shadows of the landscape are repeated on the cow's side, which I would never notice in color. Interesting.

Hey, way to embrace the problems of Texas and turn them into something artful and interesting. That is an amazing longhorn. You'd figure the Austin area would have the best ones, wouldn't you :)

Awesome, Judy!
