Thanks for the comments and votes - I am very pleased to have been voted so high...
These are the ruins of a 15th century manor house in a village called Minster Lovell in Oxfordshire at sunrise one lovelly Sunday morning. It was the only chance to get out and take the shot I wanted and i agree a blue sky would have been a great bonus. The shot was actually very difficult to take as I had to hold the camera above head height and use the monitor to frame the picture. The blurred foreground of the window was intended as I wanted the ruins as the main subject and the frame to have less importance. Difficult I felt with such darkness on the side I was standing. Still I was very pleased with the shot.

Thanks again for your helpfull comments....

I take it that this was shot through the aperture in a ruined wall. I suppose if it was a window once, it still is. Nicely framed.

Very nice! Would it have been possible to catch the sun on the side facing you? Might have added a little to the photo.

Excellent lighting on the old building. The out of focus frame nd forground detracts - did you use a tripod and stop the lens down? The sky doesn't help this umage either. A bluer sky would help the golden-lit building really pop.

One of the things I've looked for in this challenge are photos where the window view enhances the whole image, rather than just being a gratuitous window. Yours is the best example of this that I've seen yet - the rough opening really compliments the ruin.

Nice.
I would have preferred it in B/W.
But that's just me-7

You crated a very nice photo. Evocative of the labors of mankind for a special cause, though it has dwindeled away over time, there remains an accomplishment of passion to be appreciated.

The washed out sky and the straightline at the top really take away from this fantastic image. If this is somewhere near where you live you absolutely must go out here when the lighting is perfect. Perhaps a slightly wider crop would add more balance. 9

The shape of the window perfectly mirrors the shape of the old building. Wonderfully done!

Good shot! My only comment is that the 'window' takes up so much of the view, without really adding interest. Maybe tighter cropping?

Love it. Tree and tower make nice parallel lines to draw your eye upward.

I like your composition and choice of light, and what a beautiful subject! I think ther could be some added impact by bringing in the black point a bit, and applying a slight contrast boost. A bit more (genlt!) USM after resizing could help bring back out some of the great detail in the brickwork.

This is very well seen and nicely photographed. I do wish the window portion was in sharp focus. That would give this image the Wow it needs for really high marks! Still, it's good as is.
