This ended up very differently from what I originally intended.
The idea was to create the illusion of a stereotype violent chemical reaction, involving solids and liquids, heat and smoke/steam.
What I ended up with, was a stage for pretty wild smoke shapes. I had a great time with the associations, and a lousy one trying to decide which one to pick - the short list had some 20 "worthy" candidates. This was an instant favourite, and it survived the scrutiny.

Some minor tweaking and a major crop in RAW, an adjustment layer for curves (a bit more contrast), resize, USM, frame, save for web. I'd have wanted to clean out the spots in the background, but, alas...

This did a whole lot better than I could have imagined!
Thanks for the votes and the supportive comments! And again a special thanks to Joanne for picking it as a favourite – the second time you picked one of mine in a row! Very gratifying! I could get used to it…;)

I thought I might add a comment on the title, that I forgot to put in in the excitement while uploading. Of course it is inspired by the old Genesis title, as Jeff observed, and the spontaneous association in seeing the “pose” of the doggy-shaped smoke. However, it is actually meant as a statement on how I view the activities of certain parts of the chemical industry! A tiny statement, for sure, and not really supported by the photo, but I couldn’t resist it…

Very nice use of colors for depth and information while the white cloud ties it all together. Great.

There's a lot going on in this shot - the smoke, the red vial, the hot coals in the foreground and the purple-ish tinged background. The colours all work really well and the lighting is pretty much spot on too. But in terms of your subject matter I think you maybe have a bit too much going on. I'd have preferred this as either a volcano shot or a shot of a red vial with smoke coming out of it. As it stands everything is competing for my attention in a way that is without harmony so I give this a 6.

the smoke is very cool although a little blown out in some areas. I don't get the rest of the elements.

Almost overwhelming interestng photos. Does it really meet the "chemical" theme? Hell if I know but it's pretty cool and a damn good entry! 8
