This is a window on the side of the Curiosity Shop in downtown St. John's. I took this on a rather bleak, gray day - not uncommon for the weather in this city. I took many different angles, playing with the lines of the clapboard and the way the window would squish from one side to the other. I think I liked this one the best.

In Photoshop I cropped, bumped up the contrast and a touch on the brightness. I then went to town on the clapboard, which was kind if a dull yellow, and used the color replacement tool to paint it a brighter yellow. I then took down the lightness levels of everything but red and magenta in the hue/saturation settings to get the window to stand out. I think it looks pretty good. A bit of unsharp mask, resize, and I'm done.

some thing about the top left corner upsets this photo... to busy ?
maybe if you didn't have the bottom of the window parallel to the photo base and showed a small amount of extra weather board in the lower left it would change the balance and stop your eye being drawn to that corner 8

I gave this a 9 initially... but on my second pass, decided it was a 10. The only problem I have is the telephone line reflections. The peeling paint works extremely well.

The spot color detracts from an otherwise great shot.

Well taken. I like the texture and decay and the angle of view. The fade from right to left also is nice.

I don't think I can really see through the window, but, so what? I like this picture for the detail, and the colors. A polarizer and a view through the window would have gotten a slightly higher score. -7
