What a beautiful capture. The vista and perspective is magnificent! WOW Great light and shadow and all of the clear colors are wonderful.

Hey, this is exceptionally nice! I just saw it via the poem thread. Didn't want to let it go by without a comment. I love the bleakness, the stone-on-stone, the lack of water in a lighthouse shot, these all set it apart. Good job!

Ccraft, Thank you kindly :) The competition was fierce in this one & I was very happy with how it did. Of course a ribbon would ave been nice too....lol
Your previous comment about a book may not be too far off base :o) It's actually something I have in the works...A coffee table photo book to be a natural companion to a new book coming out in May that I have several pics in "Long Island Lighthouses: Past & Present"

I am absolutely SHOCKED this didn't get a ribbon (although the ones that did receive a ribbon were very good as well). It was my absolute favorite in the last few challenges.

Thank you all for the comments. As you can see, I stink at all other photography cept LIGHTHOUSES! lol Well, maybe not all, but I definitely do better with something I'm passionate about.
Might have pulled a slightly higher ranking if I had usedTHIS CROP but I couldn't stand to let the great texture of the rocks & sand be left out.

Yes, I did use a polorized lense. I almost always do for the lighthouses. Even with using it, the originals are still lacking in color... ORIGINAL
I always up the saturation in the camera software before bringing it into Photoshop to fine tune.

On a happy news note, I just found out that the alternate cropping version is going to be in a local magazine, Long Island Parenting News Needless to say, I'm VERY happy :o)

Extraordinary DOF!! Sky color is also exceptional. Did you use a polarizing filter?
Composition is dynamite!!

Superb shot, just a slight extra lift in the saturation and I think this would be a 10..... Todd, 9.

Awesome POV! IT's amazing the feeling you can get by not having the camera at eye level!

Great shot, nice blue sky and contrasts. I think I'd like this a bit better with about a half inch cropped from the bottom of the shot.

Very nice colours. Is that snow on the left? Maybe the house is slightly off if you look at how to dived the photo into different sections (rule of 3rds and so on...) Also maybe the horizon is a little to much in the center. As a photo I still rank it as very interesting. 7 from me. With another composition / cropping, an 8 or a 9

This pictures a wonderful isolatioin. Who lives there? or is it a lighthouse.?
Whatever, the shingle and the grasses are well caught, also the patch of unthawed snow.

very interesting composition. Makes it seem like a little model lighthouse resting in the weeds.

Spectacular image with very dramatic lighting. Composition is also very well done as I like the perspective here and the way your eye is led from the foreground stones to the tuft of golden grass and then on to the lighthouse. Richly colored sky as well...done with a polarizer? My only nitpick would be that the horizon line is too centered. Picture perfect post card image. Very well done.

Hum I read or saw a story once about a house on an island...I don't recall the name but the feel of the house has stayed with me. This shot really makes that memeory seem real. Very cool shot, wind swept, cold and lonley. Love this one. Good luck -Compliments only.

such a nice photo, the only thing that distracts is the area of white below the building - what is that?
