The Story:
My inspiration for this comes from my son, Kai. I am constantly reminded that he belives that I am all of these people and more. I am more than just his dad. I am his dad that can fight fires, get the criminals, the villians and go to the office all in the same day. His vivid imagination is forever keeping me on my toes trying not to disappoint him. Sadly, with every passing day he is starting to realise that I am not a superhero that he reads about in his books or sees on tv.
I am his dad that will always be there for him even if I am not one of these glorified people or characters.

The photo setup
It was a crazy week! I was literally working night and day doing my regular job and doing a side job that I took on. Friday morning I had all of 10 mins to do this. I had this idea a long time ago and thought this would be the right time to try and accomplish this message. So Friday I had to get this done in time to get my son to school and for me to get to work and get home in time to go away for the weekend.Unfortunately I had some shortcomings in the details of the props.

1. The empty hangar, which is supposed to represent that the dad is away doing one of his many tasks and to keep the viewer guessing as to what that might be, didnt really show up very well.

2. The shirt in between the fire suit and the superhero suit, I should have spaced it out so the tie and shirt would stand out more.

3. The teddy bear which Kai is holding might not be recognizable because of the way it is facing.

4. The blowout in the bottom left of the closet by the fire suit. No time to try and fix it.

Conclusion

I am glad that I did get this done. I will probably revisit this when I have more time. I don't really care what my score will be. This was very emotional for me and proud of it regardless of its shortcomings or final score.

Thx to all in advance for voting and comments.

I stumbled on to this image, quite by accident. I have to say I'm very glad I did, this is wonderful. The story behind it is touching, being a father myself it is a hard task to always be what they believe us to be. Although a bit late, very well done.

Not long ago my 4 yr old daughter said to me, "When I die I want to come back as a boy so I can go to work with you." If she knew what I did in real life she wouldn't say that. This reminds me of that special moment and makes me want to be a better photographer. Well done.

absolutely amazing...and you can only realize its true intensity if you are a father.

It is so cute how sons want to be just like their dads. My son is only 1 and he tries to copy EVERYTHING that I do.

This photo touched me. Bravo.

Excellent shot Leo and well deserved blue. I know exactly what you mean with your story. I was at my younger daughters'(11yrs) football tournament last saturday, watching with my wife and older daughter (12yrs). Around halfway through the day, my wife asked my daughter to tell me what had happened at school during a talk she gave in front of her class on a piece of work all the kids had to do. It was titled--Who I look upto the Most!...and her response was ME.!!!!..I felt so proud and emotional. ;-)....your little one will always see you as a hero..no matter how old he gets ;-)

Not often I get to say this but this was my top pick for the challenge, to me it just tells a great story and is very well composed and executed. Reading your comments you noted the blown out area but I almost think that adds to the bigger than life feel of the shot. Well deserved, congrats!

A great shot and processed very well to match the story. "I am his dad that will always be there for him even if I am not one of these glorified people or characters." You will never disappoint him with this attitude. I wish more fathers felt the same way. GREAT PHOTO/STORY!

Ohmy. . this is amazing! Anyone who gives this photo under a 9 is just stupid and has no credibility whatsoever. As for me? I wish I could give it an 11. But 10 will have to do. Fabulous work! Congratulations, and I hope to see this one in the top 3 next Monday morning!
