DPc is full of weasels that produce photos devoid of feeling or meaning. Thank you Antithesis for showing something interesting and controversial. Ignore people who doesn't tolerate your own personal beliefs or viewpoints. People have called for CENSORSHIP on this image in forums during the voting process, believe it or not.

Freedom of religion doesn't just mean i can believe what i want, it also means I can express what I don't want to believe in. Thank you for the image. I know you get dogged in your score for doing this but I think DPc would be a much better place if people are not afraid to show their own personal vision without being harrassed by these small minded morons. If it wasn't for people with courage like you who doesn't care what others think but produce images based on your own beliefs i would have left the site a long time ago.

To eloborate, it is like yelling an insult at someone, and then saying, "well that is what some might call you, it is not really how I feel, but my personal feeling are personal, and I do not want to discuss them. Just my $0.02

Zeissman - 10/14/2002
You really should not make controversial, and possibly insulting statements unless you are prepared to stand by them, and they match your personal beliefs.
*********************************************************************************

Jeez, I don't recall that "matching personal beliefs" was one of the requirements of this challenge.

"You really should not make controversial ... statements..." Jeez, Zeissman, you must be a really boring person.

Thank you, Zeissman, for proving my point. You just can't stand it when someone has a different view than you do. You are the kind of person who is always right.

Intolerance, like yours Zeissman, will destroy the world.

The Lord works in misterious ways. :) Maybe He wanted the His Word to be known among the sight members.
10/14/2002 01:06:00 AM
Zeissman, don't you have any little girls to be shooting right now? Haven't you made enough personal attacks today?

You are saying with this photo for this challenge that the bible's scripture is garbage, right?
Hmmmm...
10/13/2002 09:17:00 PM
Well, we all know that this photo caused a great furor in the forums. Now the unfortunate part is that the photo is technically not as good as it could have been, to boot. This one could have stood to be stopped down all the way to get a sharp image of EVERY word on the pages, for clarity's sake. Composition is good, and artistic interpretation is also good.

i dont understand this photo ... what is garbage about it? 3-photosbyayme

I know there was some fuss about this in the forums, however, I don't think it is trying to say what people automatically thought it was suposed to say. I don't think that if you were going to go to such lengths to bash religion (as people thought), that you would have access to a bible of this magnitude and of the objects inside the bible. I'm not a religious person myself, so I can't tell what passages it's opened up to, nor could I begin to understand them. This is a technically well done photo, and THAT is what I'm judging on here. I love the angle and the lighting really creates a mood. Overall, I think you have created a technically well done, nice to look at shot. Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~

composition, lighting, focus OK. Nothing outstanding here. Weak interpretation of the challenge. IMO, the picture would have been better if a particular verse that you found especially worthless would have been in focus so we could read it.

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here I am.

If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing fingers and malicious talk,

and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Isaiah 58;9-11
Just thought I would write what I got out of the photo. I don't think you ment what the photo is getting at. I think it is what some people think of the Lords Word. You on the other hand are an avid reader. I can tell because of the personal card and bookmark. Keep reading. It is good for the soul. Good way to spread the word as well. I give you a 6, because the lighting and the red bookmark is way to bright. It takes my eyes away from the subject. :)

You must have like 1000 comments for this photo. I love the dark side of photography. Enough of the flowers and kid photos bring on the controversy. I like it. 8. byetko.

The garbage must be in the verse.....I'm not a bible scholar and can't see this well enough to read the chapter number. Set up on this is good...Its just a little cloudy. =5 syamjonimi

If you see the Bible as garbage, you are wrong. However, that thought aside, the composition doesn't make sense here. There's also a lot of glare. I'm struggling with the temptation to vote it down because of the implications, but I'm trying to be fair. 5 nards656

I assume this is the religious pic everyone is talking about. I myself find no fault with you expressing your opinion about a religion, or all religions as a whole. But I don't feel this particular challenge was meant to express likes or dislikes. If you had a pic of it thrown in a garbage pail it would have met the challenge.

Is this the one raising all the controversy??? LOL silly people. If this is the one, I see no problems other than I don't see how it meets the challenge. Isaaih is a great book! The whole Bible is. I try to live by it. Good luck in the challenge! Grayce aka Gracious

I am unsure what your message is here. If you are saying that the Bible is trash, I find that commentary very hostile. However, grading the picture as a submission to the "Trash, Garbage, Waste" category, here is my eval apart from my editorializing.

Saw the comments on the forum, but I gave it a 7. After seeing so many garbage cans, it is good to see something which is trying to express an idea or concept. Photography is surely supposed to make people think and discuss and you have definitely done this!
10/07/2002 10:34:00 PM
This is sure to sitr up some mixed opinions.
10/07/2002 08:16:00 PM
So the BIBLE is GARBAGE to you?!?

huh?

Distasteful.
10/07/2002 02:36:00 PM
Sniff...I smell controversy, or maybe it's just all these garbage pics.
10/07/2002 01:29:00 PM
Okay, I am assuming that you are saying the Bible, or the book of Isaiah, is garbage. If i had my Bible handy, or if I could read the page, I would look to see if maybe there is a reference to garbage there. If my assumption is right, I am truly sorry you feel that way, and would like to know why. My first thought was to give you a one, and recommend for disqualification, but I feel that that would be unfair as you have a right to your opinion. So, I am going to pretend that the book shown is something I think is garbage, and rate the picture accordingly.

The composition is pretty good, but the tight cropping gives it a tight feel. The lighting seems a little off which gives the entire picture a yellowish tint or cast. Finally, the focus could be a little sharper. 4 karmat

In VERY poor taste...I didn't think twice about rating this photo a 1

I'm afraid this one has gone right over my head! I look forward to seeing the explanation at least.
10/07/2002 12:16:00 PM
i don't get it. will look at your comments when the voting's over, probably it's totally obvious and i'm just a dummy.
10/07/2002 11:56:00 AM
Good luck. Don't want to add to the "scandal"
10/07/2002 11:06:00 AM
what do you mean? milton-5
10/07/2002 11:03:00 AM
This is a nicely composed photo. The white balance could be a little better to remove the yellow tint. I need someone to explain to me how this photo relates to garbage/trash/waste. I'm definitely lost on that... - setzler
10/07/2002 09:40:00 AM
Sorry!
i couldn't understand which was the garbage of your photo
10/07/2002 08:55:00 AM
Great composition and lighting, but I'm afraid I don't get it.
10/07/2002 02:23:00 AM
VERY deep! It took me a while to figure out which passage you were (apparently) pointing to :)

"I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.
When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them..."

Of course you could have made it easier with a bit better focus so i could see the Chapter you were on, but I'm guessing you wanted people to dig for it.

By the way, if i've completely missed your point, feel free to enlighten me more :) ~ Myqyl ~

Opps, I mis-spelt my name :) I hope you didn't try to PM the misspelling :) Sorry, I fixed it.
10/07/2002 01:25:00 AM
I hardly find the Bible trash.
10/07/2002 12:36:00 AM
Nice lighting. The focus in on the metal stand (a lamp?)... It grabs my attention more than the book ; was that the intent?
