 Out of the camera with the exception of Levels and the blur tool used on the grass stem in the lower right corner. The wind was blowing creating the oof background (in combination with a wide aperature) while a fast shutter speed was somewhat able to stop the motion in the poppy.

I spent Sat hiking in a protected area of the Sutter Buttes - known euphemistically, locally, as the World's Smallest Mountain Range. 13 miles in diameter and almost perfectly round it is the result of volcanic action 1.5 million years ago and sits squarely in the center of the Sacramento Valley in Northern Cal. It is owned by 12 or 13 separate families (some of whom still ranch or farm there), entities and organizations (including the State of California) who have, at least so far, kept it safe from public access. The group I went with - The Middle Mountain Foundation (the title Middle Mountain being the name given by indigenous peoples) own a 200 acre parcel and have agreements with many land owners to lead walking tours on many areas otherwise unaccessible to the public. Beautiful bokehn here, I only with a bit more of the stem was in focus. The colours are great, too.

WOW!! this is fabulous..the light, the color, DOF..it's all so prefect Roger!! Brings to mind the phot work of Ursula...

what a beautiful place to hike and camp. I have never seen a live yellow poppy, and I surehave trouble getting the red ones to grow :( have never been able to get them to flourish the way everything else in my garden does! sigh
