I was shooting more architecture, like about my 5th excursion for lines and lines and lines and I just got bored until I looked at this statue again. I took it from two angles, one with another building in the background but a tree got in the way and this one. I opted for this because of the lightness and darkness contrast as well as the parallels of the arms and legs of the statue running counter to the parallels of the building in the background. Shot in program black and white. The statue is entitled The Family by James(?) Duffield, 1981.

Post Processing: Rotate and Crop, Layer adjustments for Levels and Brightness/Contrast. USM. Auto Brightness/Contrast. Resize. USM.

Thanks, KaDi! I appreciate your comment very much. I shot this again a week or so later and processed without the hampering Open Challenge basic editiing rules. The shadow line of light and shadow is better placed, but there are aspects of the original I like better.

Well, despite your perfect "5" you can take heart that so many commentors "got it"! It really is perfect for the challenge...and beyond. The tension and playfulness of line in this image should make those under-five voters ashamed! (and if this is your average by the voters, well, I'll just sit here and be jealous)

Thanks for playing in the "closest to 5" thread today!

Powerful photo. but parallels don't add much.

I think you could have achieved a greater effect by taking the shot at such an angle that the dark and light sections of the building split the image in half. Great idea nonetheless.

Just 5 minutes earlier the shadow border would have been between the hands!

Creative. Like very much how you use the shadowes.

The photo doesn't scream "Parallel" without the caption, and the edges of the photo and under and overexposed. Great job for such a difficult shot though.

Just an idea, I don't know if you could do this, but if you were to cast a light on the girl it would create something of a yinyang effect. It's interesting regardless.

Nice concept... but the blown highliights are a little distracting to me.

If you could have just rotated to get that line of light in the middle of the statue, that would have been more awesome!

You like this picture, I like this picture, but putting parallel in the title doesn't mean it fits the challenge - and you know it!

I love the contrast between dark and light. but the background looks to modern.
