This is another shot from my trip to the "thumb" area of MI with bmartuch on Jan.21. I've just been editing all these so I hope it's ok to enter them in here. Soon I'll get out and take some new ones.
As you can see, the ice can be very hard on docks left in the water!

I want to go to the little rowboat, push it out on the ice and sit in it. I have no idea why, but I do. I think I feel like the boat feels lonely and I want to keep it company. Makes no sense, I know, but it has obviously reached me.

I like the composition. The overcast day really makes this shot! Thanks!

The lighting and lines move the viewer about this photo feeling the feel of the scene.

I love the desolation of it all. To someone unfamiliar with the local weather, it would seem doomed forever and left behind.

I know it gets icy cold like this every year up there, so what do the dock owners do after each winter? This is a very interesting find, and I like the composition too since it makes you start at the broken dock and look around at all of the other items in your picture.

IMages without protagonists are easy on the eyes, you remind me with this photo. The lack of subject, or passive subject is oftentimes a useful tool

the coldness of winter is so completely evident here - the low hanging clouds in the sky, the icy water, the forlorn boat, the docks

Lots to look at here - boat, docks, trees, ice, sky. Very nice.

Very nice image. I like how the water leads me through the picture. Nice contrast between water and sky.

I like the dock falling in to the water, adds to the cold, foregotten feel to this.

That place looks desolate and you sure captured it here. I an only image how cold it was there!

I love this mood of this with a most grey tonal range. It is like a "mid key" shot which suites the composition well. I would love to see some up close shots of the boat, docks, water, etc...

I didn't notice that was ice at first... I though long exposure ... nature can be pretty harsh some times. Good minimal image.

A neat picture to wander about in and take in the sights. The dock definitely looks like it's not going to be of much use come spring! Well suited to B&W.

Very pretty! The composition is really appealing, and the photo seems to almost have a glow to it. Just about everything in the photo is an important element. AND, yes, it looks cool there...I was complaining today (only a little), because it only got into the mid 60's;-)

I almost didn't recognize this until I looked at it for a bit and realized where it was. Nice job with the B&W Terry.

Hey Terry, don't worry, we won't ask for exif data if we like your shot ;)

As Bud said, it sure looks cold and barren there. The iced up water looks painterly (am sure thats a real word) and the foreground water leads you nicely into the image. There is a bit of haloing (is this a real word?) around the trees.

defo worthy of a nice big print :)

So barren! I get a chill just looking at the image.

Yes, please post all the pics from this trip you have. They are so good! I love this wintery, cold scene. It is RAW and looks untouched, which gives it a feeling of aloneness and a place where you could do some serious thinking. The contrast on the water is so pretty. I'm certainly no expert on black and white, but I've heard they are always better if you have pure whites and pure blacks, which you have done so beautifully here!
