Shot of my aussie shepherd, Bikkie, doing her favorite thing -- tracking down squirrels (she's never caught one but I think she like the chase as she gets that Aussie "smile" to show her glee at spotting one)

Here I wanted a bit of blur to show movement and excitement (keeping the nose sharp) and I wanted a grainy feel so I've added a PS Elements "film" filter and a bit of difused glow.

Removed color, adjusted levels, added a film filter to get a grainy effect, added a thin border, resized.

Thanks for all the comments -- your words/feedback are helping me over my disappointment in where this shot placed. The graininess is intensional - low light plus the film filter in PS Elements. (Using the tip on the contrast, I played around with it and it did make the shot better - thanks)

the best of the multitude of "dog looking off screen" submissions.

Wonderful expression! You caught the moment... I've had to look at this several times to decide if the softness was intended and does it make the picture? Or would it being sharper be more effective to show the light in his/her eyes

This is the best dog shot I've ever seen. I see the excitement in his eyes. The soft focus is great, the toning is great, the grain is great. 10.

Seems litle graini and think it lacks a litle saturation or contrast

I really like the way you composed this shot, I think the grain/noise adds to the photo.

I like the noise/grain in this - really gives it that sort of 40's-50's photojournalism flavor.
