Thanks to my model Dario, an 82 y.o. great man who kindly accepted to pose for this shot.
I dedicate this entry to those 22 voters who voted 4- without leaving any comment to help me to improve whatever they did not like in this image :-)
Lit with two monolights:
1 soft box from the right side of the camera, at approx camera level.
1 strobe at minimum power, with difuser and red gel (that's what the redish hue of the spectacle's leg come from)from almost above the subject (approx 2 feet to the left side and 2 feet higher)
The original idea was to use a blue gel to simulate moonish light, which was great, but then opted for the dim red.

How did I stumble uponthis picture, I don't know but it open multi memory doors that melted my heart. A well felt picture. They don't make gentlemen like that nowadays. Are you still participating this year?°
This is a wonderful image with deep rich tones and a fantastic warm feel to it. Your model is perfect and looks quite at home in the warm red hue of your lighting. A wonderful moment that you both should be proud of. It is a shame that 22 people have a hard time seeing a truely fantastic image.
Deep dark rich tones and beautiful image all around. I am sure this is one that you and the subject will cherish for a long time. I would be SO proud to have created that image.
Wow! I love the instant shift of gears after looking at the other 2 ribbon winners: light and whimsical. . .then this: moving and oozing with depth and emotion. FanTASTIC! And congratulations!
Congratulations on another wonderful finish and well deserved ribbon. Maybe the back drop's slight wrinkles put off some of the 4-ers... but who will ever know?
What beautiful lighting on this portrait. Perhaps you can share what your set up was? Or was it natural lighitng? In any case, this one goes in my favs as a great subdued portrait.
On first glance I thought this might be a little dark, but it's really beautiful. Perhaps the best in show; hopefully will "ribbon" this round. A clear 10 from me!
