Location: Tranquility, NJ

Galleries: Persuasive, Self Portrait
Date Uploaded: Dec 4, 2007

Went with the classic 50mm lens. I hear it's good for portraits. Took out both of our sexy lights, one on either side of me. I think you can see which side was 500w and which side was 250w. I knew I wanted to pose with a globe, and tried a few different ideas. This one came to me during the sessions. Can you see where my fingers are?

Crop. Resize. Converted to b/w with calculations. USM.

I guess this is gonna get killed because you can't see my eyes. Too bad.

======post-challenge======

My fingers are pointing to Iraq... Couldn't you feel them, Deb? Or smell them at least? hahahahaha

and yes, a heart was drawn on the map before we got it, somewhere on the coast of North Africa.

Wonderful shot Don, the tones and lighting are marvelous.
I like the title, "Peace.... but I still squish you like ants". Just kidding.

this is a terrible self-portrait...
reason is simple, you look like a well respected, thoughtful and sober man, which makes this no different than that guy who took a picture of someone else...
DQ I say, down with top notch lighting and excellent processing!

Why is Peace the sexy thing, what happened to Justice? No more Wise Men to tell the Right from Wrong? I know there are a few out there...

As for the photo, just like a few others, couldn't tell that's Iraq. Also, the V of fingers (wasn't this what Sir Winston did to say that he won those Germans?), so the V of fingers doesn't look very natural. Given the open but not smiling mouth, it rather looks like the globe, with everything in it, is falling and you are in great trouble to keep it there. Well, in a way, that's the truth, isn't it?

The best thing in the photo is the hair: good light, good shapes and fluidity in it. In my opinion.

I can't quite see where your fingers are - need a bit higher resolution on the shot (or better eyes on my part.) I do like this, though. Works quite well, even without the eyes. And I still don't understand calculations. Other than the quadratic - that one I remember.

Except for the handsome face and shiny curls, what I like best is the lighting and the B&W conversion.

It's like a tribute to Al Gore - peace and love for the world. Is that a heart on the globe? Lighting looks great and I love this in black and white.
