I've got this giant window at the front of my appartment that's really good at providing soft light. This was taken during a snow fall so the light was even softer than normal. The background is some old drapes a friend of mine was throwing out.
I'm fairly happy with the pose. I'm not sure what made me pick it other than I was just trying different poses, from sitting in a chair to a stool to just squatting, and I found it appealing and very natural.
Despite the great light, I still managed to mess it up. My left hand is blown out a bit and looks funny. My shirt, although tan, ended up super bright. I darkened it up some in photoshop.
Post processing was minimal. Mostly darkening the shirt and trying to get the hands to look natural.
Overall, I like it. I don't find I look great in photos but I'm happy with this one. I predict high 5 or low 6s. Anyway, it's been a long time since I last submitted and it's nice to be back.
The title is a reference to the Peter Sellers movie of the same name. Being There is a state of mind, a way of living, and the only way to get thing done. I guess I was just in that kind of mood.

You should've lowered the camera POV just a bit so you wouldn't cut off your foot. Nice 'behind the scenes' pose. BB

Excellent. I love the posing, with your beard, this is one for the magazines :) no joke. Very good technically. Very good job :)

Cool guy, interesting. Nice pose, I'm not sure you're allowed to cut your feet. It reminds me of some photos from when people went to the West when it was wild.

Helluva beard, dude! One of the few in DPC longer than mine I think...

That is one superb beard :-) IMO slightly strange pose, good lighting. It works well with a tighter crop just below the pocket.

Oh snap, that is sharp! If it were cropped to a bust portrait, I would swear it was a portrait of Rasputin or something from the early 1900's. Well done!!

i like this photo, but i think it would work better if it was only the top half of you, from the knee up. could look like an old portrait you would see on a wall over a fire-place.
very capturing stare.
