this is a photograph of a wood beetle ..
i used 'daves sketch' action on the original photograph .. the action duplicates the image so your original is left untouched .. downloads - look under sketch actions ..
i then brought the sketch action image into the original photograph using blending mode darken .. i've included the workflow .. i used two textures etc etc

this is the original image ..

Great job! I like the rustic effect. It may be a tad strong for my personal taste on the black edges, but overall a very strong piece. Well done!

I had trouble looking at this because of my bug-phobia (I'm sure there's a better word; I just don't know it). However, I'm forcing myself because I really like what you did with it. It's as suemack said - when I saw this, I thought of it as an illustration to a particularly creepy novel. The effect is really well done.

I really like how the sketch action works on the beetle's surroundings. It pulls everything together so well. I think it's a little strong on the beetle, though. I wonder if the beetle would emerge more if the effect was less strong on that part...it seems to have lost some of its dimension. Neatly done, nonetheless.

This looks like a combination of illustration and image ..... very ominous feel! Good work!
