Okay. It's a close up picture of a Mars Bar (King Size - only the best for DPC) made to look faintly Martianesque. Here's how I did it.

Got back of Punch drunk Love poster sellotaped against door.

Got shoebox as base.

put mars bar on top.

took pictures.

Editted as follows:

crop.
unsharp mask.
desatuate.
change hue to red.
go through variations and make "more yellow". slight gausian blur.
increase canvas height to give the widescreen type bordery finish.
quick whank with NeatImage

Hopefully, this all comes under the basic editing rules...

Well, even though this shot was a rush job and I wasn't very pleased with it, I am pleasantly surprised with how well it did and even more pleased with the encouraging and constructively critical comments left by the following lovely people. And I learnt stuff, like:

simplicity in titles is normally appreciated
borders are generally not a good idea, especially when they're a bit imposing like mine
NeatImage totally destroys any texturey feel (though necessary because there was so much noise - still, hopefully extra practice will remedy this)
and apparently, I'm not very original, dammit ;) ! (I'll have to find the other chocolate one)

Still, if anyone who left comments happens to find this, thanks! I'm now very much inspired to perservere with this hobby / project.

cheers

Very inventive and well executed. Nice use of chocolate. However, I don't care much for the aspect ratio, or the borders at top and bottom.

Really clever, but the title oversells the idae, I think...

Black bars on the top and bottom are distracting.

I really like this picture, it has a surreal quality to it. I also like the bold top and bottom border...

There was another one of these recently, was there not? Was that you too? Intriguing view, though doesn't have a great deal to do with texture to me, ertainly not as in feel. An interesting perspective though.

Since I haven't seen any of the Mars rover photos, it's hard to judge if you were trying to actually mimic them. I think this is a wonderful idea and pretty well done. I would have liked more focus, DOF to strengthen the presentation of texture.

I like the idea and would have been perfect if you could have gotten the entire bar in focus. (7)
