I miss my snakes *sniff*
10/18/2007 03:06:39 PM
Come on, people! Get over the fact that animals eat each other (and we participate, too, in both roles). It just happens to be like this, it's nature! Are you blaming the snake for eating the mouse? "Bad snake, you should be ashamed of yourself. Go eat your salad." ???

There are unpleasant things in this world. Not taking pictures of them will not make them go away (and giving such pictures a low rating won't either).

And Aleks: I'm still curious to know how you set this up.

I did not get a chance to vote for this challenge, although I really would just like to let you know that I particularly like this image and I think it is ridiculous that you got so many ones. I used to own a few snakes and I really like the face of the mouse and how the corn snake is not completely in focus, because it brings your eye to the mouses face, which is picture perfect.

Nice job, and I would love to bet that you had a great time getting this setup...BTW, how exactly did you get this setup, being that you would probably have been bitten if you took hold of a snake with its mouse....

You should have placed way better. This is an excellent photograph. 9. I gave you the best score out of them all.
10/17/2007 04:41:26 PM
While I can fully appreciate some individuals being offended by this rather graffic image, I truly cannot comprehend a score of one. The focus could be slightly better, but there is no disputing the fact that the subject matter is well within the challenge description. The lighting is good, as are the composition and background.

I for one was NOT revolted by this image as I have a full appreciation that events of this nature occur on a regular basis in the wild, and for these reasons voted it an 8.

There are things that I do find appalling, but I earnestly endeavour not to let that affect my judgement of the image and the score it warrants.

I could grudgingly support a score of 3, but 1 is truly inane in this and most other instance.

Well done, and my compliments for testing the waters... you now know that for some, personal biases unfortunately have more impact than the quality of the image.

OMG dude. Umm, nice lighting. Good pose. Poor rat, I can't look anymore :'(
10/16/2007 09:32:13 PM
Wow...technically this is a nice picture with decent composition and exposure. However, you should caution viewers against enjoying this image just before or just after eating.
10/16/2007 09:08:43 AM
just a little more depth of field to get the snake's eyes in sharoer focus would have been nice. like the exposure
10/15/2007 11:51:05 PM
Very cool image... I bet you are getting some harsh comments about it. I wish you luck.
10/15/2007 06:22:32 PM
Ooh, the poor widdle mouse. Good capture but you are going to get a lot of comments about the brutal scene.
10/15/2007 08:42:53 AM
labuda/peete .....again? nice capture hahaha
10/15/2007 02:36:58 AM
Awesome work, the timing could not be better and more importantly , this photograph would have looked dull had the rodent shut its eye.
With the prey wide-eyed as the snake this calls for an applause
10/15/2007 01:46:37 AM
Great pics,

Its really spine chilling
10/14/2007 10:17:22 PM
Ouch! Beautiful contrast with black background, sharp image, etc. My be difficult to ribbon with the 'violent' content, however; we'll see. I give it an 8.
10/14/2007 07:50:48 PM
Disturbing image, initial reaction was ugh. But on the next glance I thought very provoking. 9
10/14/2007 05:53:46 PM
I can't deny that this is a good sharp photo, but I'm sorry I'm not a lover of snakes at the best of times and the subject matter of this shot just totally put me off.
10/14/2007 08:27:13 AM
Well yeah clear photo but I'm sure your getting creamed for actually using it.
10/13/2007 11:30:49 PM
Great capture = 8
10/13/2007 11:04:04 PM
Holy cr@p - both amazing and painful to look at.
10/13/2007 10:13:44 PM
OMG.. i can't look @ this..
10/13/2007 08:27:59 PM
Powerful, yet disturbing image.
10/13/2007 08:27:26 PM
Very disturbing. It would have been great if the snakes head was in focus. Its different so its cool
10/13/2007 12:17:42 PM
Impressive and realistic, but it does not belong to those you want to put on your wall in nice framing...9
10/13/2007 08:24:58 AM
Outch! Technically a great picture, I like the composition and the lighting. Very dramatic with the blood on the face. I'm curious to know how you set this up. As usual, you'll probably get a bunch of low scores due to the unpleasant nature of the picture (especially if people think it's a female victim and a male offender ;-) ).
10/13/2007 01:09:45 AM
oooow. stunning. great capture. how'd ya do it? extraordinary. 9.
10/12/2007 11:14:43 PM
ooooouuuu. They are not going to like this one at all. Great view of what they do.
10/12/2007 10:13:37 PM
I'm sorry but I find this very repulsive, beings an animal right activist and a vegitarion this, to me, is disgusting! Maybe if the poor creature wasn't bleeding all over. Sorry. (p.s, I don't think it's fair for me to give you a poor score becuase of my beliefs. Just so you know I'm not giving you a an unfair score )
10/12/2007 06:11:34 PM
Is that a real mouse?!!
10/12/2007 01:36:10 AM
Very nicely done. I wish there was a little more clarity on the snakes head.
10/11/2007 07:45:57 PM
Tacky.
10/11/2007 05:29:05 PM
Gory heh. Neat though. One of the funnest times I had at the zoo was at snake feeding time :p
10/11/2007 04:10:35 PM
Yikes, disturbing image. Well captured, just not my cup of tea.
10/11/2007 10:52:46 AM
wow, nice capture, although somewhat disturbing. I wish the head of the snake was also sharp
10/11/2007 09:49:50 AM
that poor mouse...
10/10/2007 11:12:18 PM
disturbing...but good
10/10/2007 07:35:47 PM
good picture
10/10/2007 05:10:59 PM
wow.. this is something.
10/10/2007 04:59:31 PM
Great shot. Hard for me to say with how much I dislike snakes. But great capture.
10/10/2007 03:25:25 PM
Good photo, but really gross and I can't look at it for long - too distrubing. 9
10/10/2007 12:56:39 PM
I bet you are getting slammed for posting this. But I love it! I own over 40snakes now (mostly cornsnakes) - and this looks like an Anery cornsnake to me...
Nice job catching the coil around the mouse. My only slight issue is I wish the head were in better focus.
Huge kudos to you for having the cajones to post this photo.
10/10/2007 11:11:30 AM
OMG!
10/10/2007 10:30:25 AM
CAN BARELY LOOK AT IT LONG ENOUGH TO RATE IT
10/10/2007 10:04:56 AM
Disturbing...but it works.7
10/10/2007 09:45:03 AM
This can't get any better than this... Excellent timing... a perfect exposure... a decent point of view to have the faces of both the killer and the killed visible... I like everything about this shot... Eager to see your note on how you took this... This should ribbon in my opinion...
10/10/2007 09:00:32 AM
yikes!
10/10/2007 08:51:07 AM
Very brave of you to enter this. I'm sure you are getting battered for it by the voters.. I'm not voting in this challenge because I am in it but I think it is a very sad but excellent shot of what happens naturally within the struggle for food... LIFE in general. It made me feel a little sick to be honest but shit happens and SALUTE for submitting it.

Technically it could use more focus but the composition is good and the snakes tongue is hanging out in anticipation of it's freshly killed dinner. I would of given an 8. Good luck.
10/10/2007 06:50:39 AM
great capture. a little disturbing but great shot anyways. good job.
10/10/2007 06:33:52 AM
wow starting. My vote is 9
10/10/2007 02:37:37 AM
wow 0.0 pretty graphic but the composition is great
10/10/2007 01:30:03 AM
No doubt the faint of heart will score you too low. This is a pretty good shot though. I would have liked to see the face of the snake a bit sharper is all.
