Close up of the cat.
one of a series of photos trying to document the cats attitude. most done in both BW and color.
i was trying to simulate the sunlight from my NG entry - at night - with a 400iso -and fast enough shutter to stop action. i used the same exposure adjustments, but with a 60w halogen lamp instead of the sun, and a higher ISO. both this and the NG entry were underexposed to get the deeper shadows. that left the photo kind of flat, i used levels to brighten them up, and bring out the contrast. the next frame was just foot, and then the bath was over...
the fact my plan worked ( i think the cat verifies that.... ( basking in the sun...) ), and it's crisp enough to see the barbs on her tongue is enough to make me like it...
this particular set of shots i was aiming for black and white, but some liked the color better, so i used it instead. the BW version is in my profile as well.
of course in trade for her cooperation, she is fed, has a clean place to poop, and the house to herself from 8-6 M-F, never less than 62F....

| I like cats. Wish I could see whatever s/he was licking. Good focus. It's a little close to the right edge, imo. I've never been able to get a shot like this. |

| You'll probably catch hell from the cat-haters, but hey, who cares! Love the shot, in fact one of my favorite kitty shots! Although there is use of shallow DOF, for me, this would fall more into the category of negative space. I really like the composition and the resulting neg spc, it gives it a lot of impact. 9 |

I like the idea and it fits the challenge well
But I would like to see a little more of the cat maybe washing a paw and its a little on the dark side I do like cats though ! I have 2 |

| I like the negative space on the left. Adds an artistic flare here. Nice details on the fur and whiskers. Overall nice shot although the DOF isn't really being used to single out a main subject. 8 -danny |

| I imagine everyone will object a to a cat and B that the tongue isn't better lit but I like the angle and the light on the whiskers and the textures of the nose, nice image |

This seems to be missing something or something just not quite right. It may be that you need to see what the cat is cleaning (probably a front paw) or maybe simply have her looking into the frame instead of out of the frame... Still a very nice composition and use of negative space and lighting. The shallow DOF is not terribly obvious here so it may not score all that well.
