This is to clear for me. Otherwise I like the photo.

I´m sorry but I cannot possibly see any use of shallow DOF in this picture.

Your DOF here does not appear to be shallow...

The dog is a nice subject; but the shallow DOF isn't really showing well in this photo. And where are the otters? :)

I see absolutely no shallow depth of field here. The entire picture is in focus. I think it could also be a little brighter. And if the dog is your main subject, then he could have used more detail on the fir. But I do not see this picture fitting this challenge in any way.

too snapshotty, no definition between the subject (which I assume should have been the animal, unless it is meant to be the snow ! ) and background.

Nice shot and concept but not very shallow depth of field. :)

Uh, the trees are in focus...I'm missing it.

Not sure how this meets the challenge...?

I like the perspective of this shot... It makes me think the dog is stalking something in the snow... The dog is in a bit of an uncomfortable position in the frame for me though. Maybe higher or lower would work better. This shot also feels like it should be horizontal rather than vertical. The shallow depth of field didn't seem to work out very well here either... just the opposite has occurred... everything seems to be in field...

Needs to be closer. It is very difficult to get a shallow DoF in sun and snow.

would have to say you missed the idea here - looks like about f:16 or more to me.

Don't really care for the crop, little snug on the right side. Other then that small comment........this is really very nice. Good light, color and focus.

Score 1: outside the challenge, in fact diametrically opposed to the challenge, as this is a wonderful example of hyper-focal distance in action. Other problems: lack of definition between dog and background, the half-capture of that footprint (?) in foreground, and quality problems.
02/09/2004 04:21:50 AM
Perhaps the point of focus should be the dog, rather than the foreground?

shallow DOF?
