This is a section of highway along the southern shore of Michigan's Upper Peninsula that I drive a few times each year making my way back & forth from my home area to where I now reside.

I'm not sure how I managed to squeak into the top ten on this challenge with THIS shot - there are some GREAT tributes above and below me but thanks for my first 7.0+ shot voters!

-------------

Oh & as far as which one this was based on - it really could be either. I was out of town when the challenge was announced & only managed to do a quick overview of every previous ribbon winner. As I was driving across the UP that day I kept looking for simply great photo ops figuring one would match a previous winner. I actually had a few choices by the time I was done - some were even better photos period - but this one most closely matched a previous winner.

So, which one? You tell me which of the two mine most closely resembles... :~) As I was shooting it, it was dsidwell's shot that was in my head but when I was editing I also drew a lot from wavelength's photo! BTW, here are the two of them:

I couldn't put my finger on why I liked it better than those two but that's it. It's a strait road, but there is a turn, and you want to go there. Great photo.

The difference, to me, is that whereas the other two pix you cite lead the eye to a visible vanishing point, yours has a hook to the left in the far distance, which is reinforced by the clouds on the horizon. Adds mystery. To me it's better because of that. Makes you want to ride on down the road to find out what's there. With the dsidwell and wavelength pix, you're quite happy to sit where you are and admire the view.

A fine pic.

Congrats on your new PB. Mind telling us which was the original? Couldn't figure it out, coz there are two similar ribboning shots.

There were two ribbon winners with this title and similiar composition. The difference being that this is the only one of the three with a raised sideline. I love the way you have covered the elements of the land, sea and sky...beautiful stand alone image.

A very lovely emulation of the original. While the original is of the desert yours is like the seaside companion to the piece. Love the colors of the threatening storm and the white caps you can see on the ocean surface - really gives an ominous feeling of a storm threatening as we travel this road. I don't have any suggestions on how to improve this other than I think the treelined side of the road could be more visible. Playing with either Brightness/Contrast or Gamma levels could correct this issue.

I feel the impending doom. Blues might be saturated a bit too much but everything else is perfect. 9

Tough, tough choice. The original and the copy both rock.

I like the waves.

Incredible leading lines here. I also like how this is a remake of several different shots.

Interesting.... Not sure who you are emulating here, since wavelength and dsidwell both red ribboned with the same title and similar shots, but it doesn't really matter, because this is great!
