 I almost entered this into the July Free Study. Betcha it would have tanked hard. Vaseline on the UV filter of my 50mm lens and didnt focus at all. All of the blur is straight from camera. A slight vignette was added along with cloning out a bunch of sensor dust. Tweaked the colors a bit to make them pop. I am using a 22 aperture and a 100 ISO for many of my shots to allow me longer shutter speeds during the day without severely blown highlights.

I love the lines, the textures and colors that came out in this pic - which I ma finding with many of the blurry images that I am coming up with. This type of photography allows me to focus on other issues other than focus. ;)

There is a wonderful flow here to this, where the elements merge and melt together (melt is probably the better word for what I'm seeing). The car turns into a mass of street/road which melts into the sidewalk. Dynamic, but subtle in many respects, too.

Colors are vibrant, making a rainy day almost fun again, like when I was a child. Someone said something about impressionist painting, I can see that.

Yeah, when I tried my vaseline shots, I quickly learned to not rely on autofocus at all, but to find my chosen point of focus manually. :) This is really nice, great contrast of bold colors. It's like you created the sense of rain with the blur itself.

This is really beautiful. Now I'm tempted to try that Vaseline thing, only I'm worried about how I'd get if off the filter afterwards.

You may be right that it would have done badly in the free study, but I'd have given you a high score.

Vaseline works well, as do freezer Ziplock bags. I'll be using those this month myself. Beautiful colour.. the umbrella is lovely and placed in the perfect part of the frame.

wot an unusual and very appropriate use of vaseline!!! .. it works so well for the umbrella and the rain etc .. the colours are great . :)

I really like this! Not just because of the effect but also the subject, the texture of the stone walkway and the colors. Great eye!

My favorite part, other than the really cool swishy, painterly aspect of it, is how his legs have become one with the sidewalk. Colors be very good, too.
