Composition ~ The curves of the 3 foreground mushrooms make a very interesting and pleasing pattern. I enjoy the intersecting lines alot. If I were to pick out a specific subject, I would say the halved mushroom would be prominent. The other two foreground 'shrooms kept leading me back to it very effectively. That being said, I thought the background mushroom detracted from an otherwise effective composition. I realize it is probably there to hold the halved 'shroom up, but I have to wonder if toothpicks would have been a better choice.

Background ~ There's a slight line in whatever you used to create the black background. Not overly distracting, but it'd be worth removing. The contrast of the black background to the light colored 'shrooms worked very well.

Exposure ~ Very well done! The detail is clear throughout.

Focus/DOF ~ The back mushroom is outside the DOF, but this didn't detract anything for me since that wasn't really the principle subject. I had problems with the back mushroom being there at all, but the slight lose of focus there didn't affect me.

Post Processing ~ White balance seems excellent as the color is identical to the ones in my refigerator :) If it was allowed in challanges, you might have wanted to get rid of the 'hot pixel' in the stem of the background 'shroom

Opinion ~ Overall, I like this shot. While it is true that these are niether fruits nor veggies, I believe that you certainly were within the spirit of the challenge if not strictly within the letter. The title made me groan (as any good pun should) and I felt it enhanced the shot. Great job and congratulations on a wonderful catch.

Nice closeup! Mushrooms are neither fruits nor vegetables, but thats nitpicking and doesnt decrease my score. What's are the black fuzzy lines on the background in the upper left corner? I can't help but it looks like spot editing. But since it's still here, probably not :-) Still a distraction. -stephan

Nice image. Good coloring and exposure. Composition is a little to centered for my taste, but I still like it. Good luck in the callenge. Gracious aka Grayce

EXCELLENT! Great Detail, lighting and composition. Almost looks 3d. (I think I detect a wrinkle in the black background - different screens show different things...Also, seems to be a white pixel or something in the bottom of the stem at the top). Love the Title. Excellent work. 9

I don't think that shrooms are exactly a Fruit or Veggie. If my memory serves me right, I learned in my botany course that a shroom is an organism within itself. Other than that this is technically a nice shot.

I like the use of negative space with these 'shrooms. I like the composition, and the fact that you left the little bits of soil on them. lhall-8

Well mushroom is a fungi not a fruit or veg, but I'll look and vote this photo as if it was a fruit or veg :)
