Challenge: After Dark (Classic Editing)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 5700
Location: Greeley, CO
Date: Jan 10, 2004
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 8 sec
Galleries: Vintage, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jan 11, 2004

Photo taken on an 8 second exposure at 2.8 and ISO 200. Full moon between the trees that blew out. Had flash set to -1 compensation to illuminate the human figure by the tree. Light in my hand to leave some light trails. Ran up to the camera and illuminated my face for less than 1-2 seconds. Converted to B&W, noise, bronze coloration, and increased levels/curves to bring up the Spectre in the tree.

WOW... This is riveting! Fantastically disturbing image. Severely underrated. Beautiful work.

I agree - Incredibly under-rated. This photo is so intriguing. Unique to boot. I would have given this a 10 pretty quickly if I had voted on the challenge.

definitely THE most under-rated shot in the challenge...this composition is excellent. I especially like the misty, foggy quality of the illuminated face.

I think this was one of the best shots of the week. I'm sorry it didn't do better. Very creative and just plain awesome. Get up the good work.

Photo has an abstract quality. I find it hard to pull the separate elements (tree, squiggle of light, bright spot in center, ghost, branches) to make a cohesive composition..

This is a very interesting effect. It took me a few times to see it and once I realized what it was it made it all that more creepy. And I like the choice of a top hat too, not sure why. Maybe it just adds to the creepiness of this. Very original idea. Sidenote: the graffiti on the tree is just a little bit distracting

Wonderful incidental treasures in this refreshingly different entry,so reminiscent of another time and photographic epoch.
The dark grainy landscape (on the right) as much as several structural elements (tree trunk and limbs left largely unobscured) along with the superimposed hatted male figure provide both an anchored setting and mood for what might otherwise be sheer chaos, albeit magnificent.

The course of the haloing (back- to foreground)appears all the more credible given the dancing motion blur of a light source in the foreground. Compositionally, I'd wish for a little more room on the left of the image (and in the direction of the errant path of light), which, IMO, would also balance the total bright vs. the total dark areas (?).

A more than interesting creation with a poignant balance between discernable detail and spectral ambiguity, which, to me, translates to magic.

This looks like something from a horror movie all right. I prefer the wide blurry strokes to the th inner, more 'legible' strokes at left. Really fun idea.

very cool. nice work. I like the busy light movement, and the black negative space in the right. If feels like so much went into this shot that I can't help but "feel" something. Love it, and I'd be proud to have this on my wall. 10.

Interesting eery image. The person or ghost is nice addition to otherwise smudgy shot. How did you achieve this artistic look? It is very interesting.
