One of a pair of bronze Native American warriors statues on Michigan Ave. and Congress Parkway in Grant Park, Chicago. This one is called the Spearman (the other is the Bowman). They were created by Yugoslavian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic who was a faculty at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana and was placed in Grant Park in 1928.

Tech: used the zoom lens of the camera at about half extension, autocontrast, autolevels, cropping, sharpening

Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil

Composition - This is a really nice composition as it is. The only thing I can see here is that its tight in the frame. There seems to be a little bit of the pole showing behind it but its not a huge distraction.

Technical - To me, this seems to be where all the problems fall. The sky has some funky things going on that look like the results from oversaturating. It could also be some noise from the longer exposure. It seems like the exposure might have been just a little too long. Shortening that would've cut down the hot spots and maybe even a little of the background noise. I'm still trying to figure out what the blue line is right above the base of the statue.

Overall - I'm disappointed that this didn't do better than it did, even with some of its shortcomings. I thought it was a better photo than 5.0 but I guess I'm just one voter. Take care, good luck and all that stuff - Bob

Unique point of view from behind. The light may be a little bright, but it comes at an interesting angle. I like how you filled the frame here, making your subject quite majestic and important.

Lots of noise and banding on this photo. I like the idea a lot, just something wasn't just right with the camera. There are also a few hot spots and the crop is a little tight. I don't hate this photo honest... I see that there is a lot of potential with this photo. At least enough to encourage you to go shoot it again, for what it's worth. Good luck!

If I didn't know you entered this in "After Dark" I wouldn't even know it was a night time photo.

First observation, the spear man doesn't have one...

Lighting is a bit harsh and there appears to be some chromatic abberation down at the bottom. Other than that, I like your angle of view.

Hum, only we don't see the spear from this view. Also the bottom is a bit over exposed. Not sure what you were trying to shoot or express here. I do like the statue.

Maybe a little overexposed for an "After Dark" shot. A lower ISO would lessen the grain and a slightly darker shot would be more effective.

It's a shame the light pole could not have been hidden behind the statue. It is still a nice shot though.
