I took this photo without a studio in the dark and used a flashlight to light the flower. I am not good with working with light, so I tried it in this challenge. Placing in the 28th percentile -- I need to do lots of improving! Any tips, help or ideas you have -- feel free to share them.

I really like the colors of the flower... and the title is very fitting, but I don't see how it fits the after dark challenge.

The lighting is a bit too much, it caused you to lose a bit of the color. It also makes it look a bit washed out. The thing with lighting, is you have to play around with it. Try holding the light further away, at a different angle, or side. Play around and see what works for you.

The photo is nice and clear. Great focusing.
Overall, it is a nice photo.
Have fun and practice with lights!

seems maybe a bit over-exposed to me, lighting seems a little harsh.

wonderful title. great patterns and lighting. I would crop it tighter at the bottom to eliminate the leaves.

Very nice photo. I like the color, composition and the texture. Very sharp and I like the coolish tint the light gives off. For "after darlk" theme, for me personally a photo like this would be a stretch since this could be taken any time of the day in a studio setup. 8 - bumped up to 9

This subject in no way conveys to me anything about dark. It seems lit too much to really imply anything about darkness either. The texture of the petals is pretty good, but overall I don't think this relates to the challenge as well as it should.

Seems wilted, even though that might be how it really is.

contrast is a bit heavy it makes the flower seem hard
But nice focus and sharp

I like the composition and the color, but not the blown-out highlights.

The green stalk coming from the bottom left is a little bothersome as is the harsh light on the flower petals. Very sharp and focused this one.

Seems like this could be night OR day.. that said - fabulous color and composition. The green thing is a bit distracting. One of my favs. 8

There is nothing different in this from many other flower shots to make me believe it is "After Dark". The light on it is too harse while the green stem on the left is distracting.

The willy-nilly posiiton of the petals really captures interesting light here. Too bad the Dec. rules are gone. YOu could have cloned out that leave at bottom right. Lovely use of directional light and color.

I love flowers on black backgrounds. Some people hate it, but not me. You have some excellent color, and wonderful texture here. The only spot I'm finding a bit distracting is the petal that is fight above the green leaf inthe bottom left corner. It seems to be blurry, where the rest of the shot is nice and crisp focus. Not sure if that was your DOF, but I think it would have enhanced the shot just a bit to have that petal in focus as well. Otherwise, very nice lighting, and great close up. Beautiful flower. ~Heather~
