I have no clue why this came to my mind when the challenge was announced, but it did. By far the hardest editing that I've done and I'm really happy with the result ^^
7 images where combined to create this :) It took around 10-15 hours total in around two days, so lots and lots of very careful work.
POST CHALLENGE:
I cant believe it! Thank you so much everyone for all the comments, favs, and 8+ score! I still have one more hour till my birthday ends so this is awesome!!
Thanks again!!!

What a beautiful and outstanding work!!. I did not have a chance to vote but it would have been another 10 to add to your fantastic(and deserved) score!!
After this image, it is a little difficult to look at some of the other images, both in this contest & others posted this week. It's rather like comparing Renoir to an artist selling his first canvas on a street corner.
Okay, maybe an unfair comparison, but my point is that you have changed the precedent for this site. At least, my paradigm of "editing" has been shifted ... my expectations of ribbon winners has been raised.
In short... you rock my world!!! =)
The great thing about this image is, it wll be referred back to countless times if there is any doubt over whether a photo is legal in expert or not, this has many elements that may generally be regarded as breaking the rules, the fact it has scored so well and been allowed by SC will certainly set a precedent in future expert editing challenges.. so well done on another level as well.
Congratulations on an amazing score, which is most fitting for such a striking piece of work. The concept is inspired; and the work is perfectly executed. You are incredibly talented! All the best.
I see there were a few insecure, jealous trolls in force.
Yeah no kidding! This has to be the best picture on dpc. Come to think about it, the best picture I have seen in a really long time. Very happy to see you break into the 8 score.
One of my favourite images of all time. There is so much emotion (which is odd seeing as it is an andriod). Perfect editing. Just fabulous. The score is so well deserved!! fav
Congratulations Justin (and happy belated birthday)! One of the most amazing images I've seen. Knew this was gonna come out on top. WELL DONE!
Are you gonna share more about the creation of this image? What were the 7 different shots? I'm just curious... Can't blame you if you decide to keep those secrets to yourself though! DOGGONE this is GOOD! =-)
OK, the moment I saw this image, I knew the competition was over. everyone can only hope for a red ribbon or less. This is just awesome Justin! Your whole body of work is amazing, not just this image. Soooo talented. Congratulations on a much deserved blue ribbon! Belated happy birthday too! :)
This was always going to win.. I think its time the SC named and shamed those who gave this a 1..
Nice one. Well deserved.. Happy Birthday!!
I SO agree with you, Simms! I've been lobbying DP's SC to use the same software that they use for "buddy voting" on this type of thing! I also feel that if there were stronger "voter's qualifications" that might help keep the Trolls at bay!
This was one darned great piece of work and those low scores just dampened the score it truly deserved!
OMG! I'm surprised that you are surprised by the 8+ score and blue ribbon :) !! I'm also surprised that everyone who saw it didn't give it a 10! But then. . .I see there were a few insecure, jealous trolls in force. Jeeeeeeeez, this is one of the most spectacular works of art I've ever seen.
Congratulations on your blue ribbon. I was one of your 53 9's. You may wonder why I held back from the 10, it is only that to me the final result seemed more like illustration than photograpy, so that I couldn't bring myself to give it a 10. Beautiful job, nonetheless. I strongly suspected this would win the challenge (as it did).
What an amazing creation. You are truly an artist. Congratulations on your wonderful image, the well deserved score, and of course the blue ribbon. And a belated Happy Birthday.
One of my favourite images of all time. There is so much emotion (which is odd seeing as it is an andriod). Perfect editing. Just fabulous. The score is so well deserved!! fav
I usually don't comment on challenge photos after the challenge is over - especially ribbon winners. I'm breaking tradition for this photo and I haven't even looked to see how my photo did yet. I'm glad to see the winner of our future is 'Hope': it makes me feel better. Congratulations on the blue, you totally deserved it!
A clear ribbon winner for my money. This shot starts off at a very high level and is then enhanced by the attention to detail and wonderful subtleties.
sigh. looking at pictures like this just make me want to cry and give up photography. how do you guys do this? may you suggest as to what books i could read in order to start to develop my skills in this kind of thing?
oh and of course, it is a 10 from me. first 10 i have given so far. i know you dont have much competition in this challenge but this is by far one of the best photo i have seen in a long long time.Well done
I do like the image as-is. I gave it an 8. But I do think that it might have been improved by focusing on the face and hand more. There is so much emotion in the face and showing more detail there with a tighter crop, and getting rid of the extraneous, sort of fake looking torso, might have helped some. But like I said, I do like it. :-)
Awesome. Conceptually terrific, and executed almost to perfection. The first shot I clicked, on but I can say with some confidence that this will be one of the best.
Very powerful photo. I like how you used a selective desat on the butterfly. This doesn't even look like a photo, it looks computer drawn! Amazing Photoshop Skills.
OMG! This is outstanding work, fantastic presentation and excellent use of expert editing, tasteful and not overwrought with cluttered graphics. Sensitive and beautiful 10
Absolutely and totally excellent. This is a wonderful example of Sci-Fi in it's purest form. The mannequin/robot looking upon the perfect example of life...the Monarche Butterfly! Everything is excellent done to my untrained eye, but I am sure that it will be pretty close to the same classification to those who are in the know. My favorite!!! (10)
This is amazing, it looks like something from the final scene of a movie. You have not only created a photo that fits the challenge, you have conveyed emotion, well done. A definite 10 from me and I hope this is the winner.
I usually give a couple of 10's per challenge but this photo is so much better than all the rest that I cannot justify giving any other photo a 10 except this one.
I don't know how you accomplished this - but I am BLOWN AWAY! I haven't seen all of the entries yet, but I can't imagine anything topping this. WOW! This is outrageously good. WELL DONE!
Ok IMO, THE BEST, of the challenge. Blows mine away.... I hope this gets blue and mine gets 2nd. Well done. Lighting great, composition, idea. It all works. Editing is great also. Nice work. 10!
WOW WOW! ok i thought i had found the best but this is definitely getting a fave from me. Your talent and creativity kicks ass! i hope you have a print of this.
This incredibly elegent! I wonder what you used for the different parts because it looks almost like a painting. I love the dynamic between the colored butterfly and the eye color. This is just unbelievable composition.
Oh geez - now here we have something obsolutely wonderful is 218 ways. I love it all - looking for flaws … not really seeing any - the enormous size of the being here is great - great background- love the desat for timelessness- the eyes are great which is always important- the seams between body and limbs are clever and subtle enough - I love the hairess character which gives a futuristic, more androgenous feeling which is always futuristic (man and woman willl look similar in the future ;P) … oh, here's some super picky stuff: the tear could be more prominant I suppose - and the head slightly bigger and slightly more perfect along with the butterfly (could be bigger). The skin could be better Those are the parts keeping it below 10 … so you get an 8.
