My father just had a 5 (yes 5) bypass open heart surgery; this shot is not only to see how something like this will do here on DPC but to document the effects of smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day for more than 40 years.
Needless to say my Father has quit smoking.
Thank you Dad for allowing me to get this shot, regardless of how it does on this web site I love you, I'm proud of you and I'm so glad that you are still with us!
Setup:
This shot is a single exposure, yes it's possible to do this with the mighty D200 image overlay but with the new rule set it's back to doing things the right way, learning new techniques.
Backdrop hanger in garage with black drop cloth.
Inspiration from Da Vinci and graphicfunk the master of long and multiple exposures.
Set Dad up in front of camera and had him hold his arms above his head I triggered the shutter release on Mirror up and fired my SB600 three times. As I fired the SB600 I had my Father move his arms down.
The result is what you see here.
Little post processing was done to this shot. Cloned out some garage on the right hand frame, curves, convert to b/w using hue / saturation, resize canvas, resize photo, smart sharpen and save for web.

his expression (tentative and looking to the left) is a bit distracting, but otherwise nice capture. the scar looks "new;" my husband recently acquired a "zipper" as well. :)His was to fix a congenital heart defect, but watching him go through it (and the recovery), I decided to get as healthy as possible to prevent ever needing one.
Lighting is fine as well as composition. Overall this image is really lacking purpose. The man's expression almost looks as he he is not paying much attention. The background should have been darkened on the right side to hide the wrinkles. Overal for an image such as this to work you need a strong expression, or else it just looks as if you are testing a technique with no reason for it.
