Well, Lea, are YOU happy with it? I think it's a pretty neat memory-keeper kind of shot. DPC doesn't reward different kinds of looks, so again, if you like, it, be happy. :)
I don't get this at all! Lea showed this to me before for an off-the-cuff opinion and I told her I thought it was fantastic. I almost didn't enter at all 'cause I thought my shot was so far below the caliber of this that it kinda depressed me. Why you get slammed the way you do here in challenges I will never understand.
I stick to my original story, Lea, this is a wonderful shot!
I like the shot and the processing a lot. The beater is a little hard to make out. I don't know if there would be any way to make it more distinct while leaving the face as it is. Keep working on this high key technique. I think it can be very effective.
I gave this a 9. I think the post-processing really worked great on it. I know that images processed like this often do not do well, but I was really surprised to see how low this was voted. I loved it. Great composition, great sharpness, great color in the eyes, great details even with the high-key processing. The bang-on eye contact really makes it. Liza
I'm afraid to try shots like this for the exact reason of what happened to you. This just shows how extraordinally shallow the voters at DPC are. You got robbed. If you don't give them the same thing over and over, they punnish you for it.
On a purely subjective level, I really dislike the post-processing. Although I clearly haven't seen the original, I can't imagine that this treatment does it any favours.
I love the high key approach. Coming back for a 2nd view. I seriously think this would be KILLER in black and white. There are certainly enough contrasting values to make it really pop. His eyes are just amazing and you can count each individual eyelash and brow hair. Great focus.
Interesting image, can see what you were going for in terms of the over exposure, which for me works well on the childs face but less so when you get down to the lips and beater, would be interesting to see what the outsome was if this was cropped just below the nose as the model has a wonderful expression
