I just got my brand new wonderful lens (a 70-200 F4L IS) Wooo Hoooo. So of course, I had to run to the zoo at lunch and test it out.

I am so certain now that this elephant somehow knows me. Or maybe doesn't know "me" . . .but from what I've heard about elephants' memory. . .and their sensitivity to emotional things, I'm convinced that he senses my intense admiration and love for elephants or something. Because every time I come, he is standing in the back, butt to everyone swishing his tail -- refusing to look towards anyone! But EVERY time, after I stand there for a while and watch him, he starts turning towards me, then he walks right up to the edge of the huge place he lives and lets me take some straight on pictures of him. When I die and go to Heaven. . .I want to be the elephant keeper! I ADORE them!!!

Here's his sweet pose for me.

Oh. . .and I LOVE my new lens. Tomorrow, I'll post some soft ones of another animal :)

Amazing shot. One of the first things that jumped out at me was how well the background texture complimented the elephant's skin texture. The tones are lovely as well. And he's blowing the dust that way adds to the composition. At first I thought the crop on the right was a tad too tight but it's not a bother anymore.

What a fantastic capture that works so well in sepia tones!! I love the different textures and the blowing dust. He's magnificent and you brought out his beauty and personality. I bet he feels your love and admiration and responds to it. :)

Blimey!! What a fantastic photo, no wonder you love your new lens, the duotone works brilliantly as it captures the feeling of heat and dust. fantastic dof on the skin. I can almost feel the texture and dryness

oh sandy .. your lens is fantastic ... just seeing these elephant photographs .. excellent .. love this image .. love the way he's standing, sort'v leaning back, love the action feel with the dust he's blowing, love the background contrasting with the texture of his skin, love his tusks contrasting with everything else in the image ... talk about wow ..
BUT ... you have a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM listed as one of your lenses, and i dont see a 70-200 .. ??? please excuse my ignorance ... but i'd like to see the one you have and used for this shot, and check out its specs .. i'm so in the market for another lens !!:):):)x
edit ... i just read the rest of your comment .. and how amazing that the elephant comes right up to you like that .. and of course animals sense where we're coming from .. heaps more than ppl sometimes!!!!:)x
