 An all-girl band, the Delicate Painted Ladies perform in masks and are a great hit at Carnivale, medieval festivals, and children's birthday parties. Their debut album, "Behind the Mask" is expected to go platinum based on the popularity of their Number 1 single "Empty Eyes".

A Venetian mask I bought this spring, laid on a piece of black velvet. Light is from a shoplight aimed at the wall to the left of the mask. Shot handheld standing above it. You wouldn't believe how much glitter I still need to clean up....

Post: crop, burning, dodging, cloning, curves with soft light blending mode, sharpen with high pass filter on soft light blending mode. Lots of stuff tried and deleted. Stood on my head and offered Tibetan chants, which I'm not entirely sure is within advanced editing rules. Cropped again and added borders to try to keep CD cover size aspect in mind. Lettering is done in Photoshop - two layers. First layer is in a goldish color. Second layer is a darker brown, shifted slightly atop the first, with dissolve blending mode reduced in opacity and fill strength. And there you have it. I think.

This was my favorite of the challenge! I'm so glad it was yours, Deb. The music on the cheeks is a marvelous subtle touch. The composition, lighting, colors, focus are all exquisite. The text is perfect. You may never berate your skills/talent again.

The ironically-named Delicate Painted Ladies came late to the Punk Rock scene, but quickly made up for lost time. During every show they would paint each other with metallic colors, but not delicately! Mostly, they would just throw cups of paint at each other. They broke up in 1982 when their lead singer was arrested for attempting to dig up John Lennon.
