This is the first time I have tried anything like this. (Photographing the shadows). I took several shots and this was about the best. I am submitting it simply for advice - and for the fun of it!

Paganini -- no way! Don't you know most of the monsters hide under the bed. LOL.

AGH! I wanted to do something like this for "Shadows". You pulled it off well. Very emotive!

Nice spooky shot. Lots of atmosphere.

Good concept and I love the hands. Not so sure about the framing here, though. B&W works well. 7 - floyd

What's with the stuffed toy? The idea here is great, but execution is poor. The most important thing, the shadow of the hands, is nearly left out of the shot completely! The stuffed toy is far too distracting. A lump in the bed (kid hiding or sleeping) may have worked better, with the shadow more dominant.

The hands are PERFECT. The doll seems out of place -- too happy-go-lucky for the sentiment. But this is just my opinion. The title certainly describes your intent; FWIW, I think you succeeded without the title. 7, just-married

Haunting...

This is great though not sure I like the inclusion of the cuddly there, it detracts from the scarey message, or maybe that's the idea. I like the shadowy hands on the wall.

This is my number two pick for the week. I think this picture is great. Good lighting and it gives kinda a grainy "Silent Hill" type shadow look.

great idea! the photo is mighty busy though, and it is a very subtle image... which unfortunately make it easy to overlook this shot. i like the black and white and the shadows on the wall, but would like to have seen a little less action in the foreground. (the letters on the blanket, the hat on the animals head... these things i dont like because, imo, they distract from the rest of the composition.) (6) ~mcmurma

Good idea.

Very scary indeed. Looking at this shot makes me get that "pit of the stomach" fear feeling. I relate. lhall

Congratulations on a great idea! This photo is good because it reminds me of fears I had when I was a child. However, only one hand's shadow is clearly defined and I feel there is too much bed in the photo. I don't know why, but that cuddly toy just seems out of place in this scene (despite it being very appropriate). Could you have done this all in shadows? How about the shadow of a bed corner, the boy clutching a teady-bear and gazing at the hands? I think this would score higher points with me. Nevertheless, I really like this photo for the feelings and also for the creativity. Well done.

A bit out of focus, but VERY creative! I think this is great.

I wish this were a little brighter because I think I would like it a lot. At least on this monitor it's a bit hard to tell what's happening. I'm assuming that you have hands reaching to scare someone in bed, which is a great concept!

I really like this photo. It is more often than not that a really horrible memory takes presidence over even the best of memories. It's traumatic and often really hard to forget. This is a really dark photo, and under normal circumstances, I don't normally like overly dark or overly bright photos, but it works ver nicely here. The angle and focus are great also for this photo. Great job and good luck in the challenge.

this would have been a good one for shadows
08/26/2002 04:42:00 PM
Terrific idea!
08/26/2002 04:11:00 PM
Oooo, scary! I know it's supposed to be dark as part of the scariness, so I won't score you down, but it is hard to see where the bed stops and the toy starts. 7 Swash

Hmmm, i like this photo but not necessarily the composition. the idea is good, the composition would need to be different. The hands are great but needs to be more pronounced. I would have shot underneath the bed, as most children who are afraid of teh dark would hide there.

Good subject. How did you get the model to pose for you? ;)

great idea.
