Bike parked by a side door to the Mainz Dom (cathedral) on Easter Sunday. Tonemapped from a single RAW file, cropped, levels, brightness/contrast, sharpen, resize, border. I quite like the way the editing turned out on this one.

I fear it's entirely too quiet for DPC. Ah well.

I really like this shot. The composition is fantastic. I love those old brick buildings.

Dang!! You did a great job on this! I find it so interesting, and the tone mapping gave it such a rich old look. If I had voted on this challenge, I know I would have voted this photo a 9 or 8 minimum! Probably a 10 because of how interesting it looks and how the more I look at it the more I like it!

Fantastic job!!

I love it! The composition, light and mood - perfect- definitely underrated!

Positives:
Photography, as an art form, captures the mundane and presents it in a more interesting perspective. That is the strength of this image.

Technicals:
You mention the use of tone mapping of a RAW image etc. in the comments. These are things near and dear to my heart and generally contribute greatly to the overall quality of an image, but has NOTHING to do with whether or not an image is 'good'. What looks 'good' is 'good' regardless how it is achieved through technical means. What is 'bad' is 'bad' regardless what technical process was applied.

Generally speaking yours is a well done and technically 'good' image. Center composition works with the crop. Exposure is good, it has no over/under exposed areas. Lighting is OK but nothing special. Tonality is very good, sharpness OK.

The challenge:
Obviously meets the challenge. HOW something meets the challenge is more important than meeting it if scoring higher is your goal. You've composed the bike well, but maybe voters want more, like someone on the bike. Who knows?

Suggestions:
For me everything about this image, as conceived and composed, is good except sharpness. Sharpening more would be better, but that may be just me. Additions to make this image more interest to the average voter might be a consideration for a higher DPC score.

Nicely done Deb. I have to agree with ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/user_id/70.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/user_id/70.gif', '/') + 1) . ' mk, you should tone map it.

I knew this could only have been made in Germany. Nice shot, like the quiteness. Though it is not, it kinda looks slightly tilted. Not much to see of tonemapping, looks more like shot on a dull day.

a lovely image deb. the subdued colour palette really works well here. obvioulsy not too quiet, a 5.7 is a not too bad score at all!

Lovely shot, Deb. Your score shows it's not too quiet. :)

Come on, Melethia...you gotta tonemap the hell out of it. ;)

Lovely shot. Too quiet probably, yes. I actually really like it in a b&w (well, okay, I like everything in b&w these days but whatever).

This one should have done much better. I didn't see it in voting but you would have been in my top 5 for sure!

Nice crop - though it appears slightly crooked? (or it's my eyes?). Good job.

Nice image. I like the simplicity and the way the building allows the eyes to move up to look at the whole image.
