Could it be my first top 10 finish? Probably not, but I like it!

Thank you for all the comments. I've been disappointed with my score all week, but figured than this could be a low scoring challenge, giving me a chance of a top 10!
The photo is a candid, rather than staged, and it is quite a disturbing image.

What about alcoholessness?? When is someone going to do something about that? ;-) j/k

Well done! Poignant, well shot and nicely processed. Congrats on a better-than-just-a-top-ten. :)

What can I say that would add to what you've already done? This is a most excellent shot that fit the challenge in a powerful and emotional way. You are correct that it is quite distrubing. Did he ever wake up and see you? (Just being nosy).

I honestly am not sure that I can tell you how to make this better, so I will just tell you what I like about it.

The subject, obviously, has a universal understanding/appeal. Everyone knows about homelessness, but few want to confront it. You have forced us to confront it, whether we wanted to or not. This in itself makes this an "uncomfortable" image, but it needs to be uncomfortable to be effective.

The post processing gives it an edgy look. Color would have made it look to "happy" I think, so the coloring you have chosen is effective.

Initially it looks like a centered composition, until you look at it a bit closer. The man being in the upper third takes away the "static" feeling it would have if it were completely centered. However, in this case, a static feeling might have worked simply because, unless the chain is broken, this guy is going nowhere. :( Also, the bottle helps to anchor the picture, both symbolically and photographically.

I like the vertical outtake, but there the focus seems to fall on the bottle, not the man, and it is not quite as powerful for the "break the chain" message, I think, though others may very well view that differently.

Great work and congrats on the ribbon.

I work at At-Bristol, where this guy is sleeping. Amazing how close to home this is! Great candid and a well-deserved ribbon!

Congratulations on a well-deserved ribbon. I don't know how you chose which one to enter - the outtakes are just as good.

As for the low score, you were definitely robbed. This should have taken the blue.

I think its a great shot and a well desevered ribbon ! I am also quite impressed with the voters. Although not a real high ribbon score, there was not much (any?) DNMC stuff.

Congrats man !

I think this is the best homeless person photo I've ever seen! You have processed it so expertly to ehance the powerful emotion of the scene! Your score is ridiculously low for such a fantastic photo -- but I am SO glad you got the last word and won a ribbon with it :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Is this candid or staged? If candid - what a catch. And there is probably an interesting story to be told. I am guessing this is staged, which to me says you had a great idea, put it together well, and came up with a nice presentation. Good luck!

133 photos down and this is the BEST one that doesn't show an actual chain. I wouldn't change a thing and have no idea how it could be improved. 10

Very good interpretation of the challenge; kind of a sketchlike processing. I like the tones.

Very nice. The tone-mapping really works here. My only gripe is it feels like it could use a little CCW rotate to me. Other than that, fantastic idea and excecution! Bumped ya to a 9.
