Challenge: Childhood Without Children (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-D60
Location: Seattle area playground
Date: Aug 24, 2002
Aperture: f8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 7/10th
Date Uploaded: Aug 24, 2002

I scouted a few playgrounds during the week before deciding on this one. I got up at 5am Saturday morning (ugh!) to get my shot.

To get a little more definition in the gym, I put the camera on self-timer, and fired a flash manually from about 10 feet left of the camera.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

Regarding the "banding" mentioned by Journey... I guess there are too many color gradiations for displays set for 16 bits of color. When I set mine to 16 bits, I see the banding. At 32, it's smooth.

Nice framing and angle. I think I'd have pushed the colour up a bit more but that's just nit picking. Great shot. 9 - floyd

This is a great image; strong design and composition. Love the starkness of the colors caused by the dawn. Only problem is the banding in the sky; probably caused by overcompressing? 9 Journey

I love the silhouette of the playground equipment against the blue sky. The shapes also help to pull the eyes up, I think, in a dramatic way. great job. karmat

This is one of my favorite photos this week. I spent many hours as a child playing on equipment like this :) The photos that stir my own childhood memories are scoring well with me this week. The lighting here is phenomenal. Great shot :) = 10 - jmsetzler

Really nice. I love the curves and shapes. The shillouette makes it really stand out. The sky is very pretty and I like the angle and frame filling. Placement is great. good job and good luck in the challenge.

I like the changing hue of the sky as it gradients to the bottom. Interesting shapes, and good low-angle child's point-of-view.

such interesting shapes, the early morning setting with the slight tinge of the sunrise gives a mood of waiting for the children to arrive, a wonderful picture
