Taken on a Merry Go Round at a park near home. Most parks no longer have these things as they are likely spinning death traps. I set my tripod up on the Merry Go Round and used the stem in the horizontal position so I could get it hanging out over the edge. Then it was a matter of getting the sweet spot for shutter speed; background blur vs. subject sharpness. By the end I was QUITE ready to get off.

Caden is psyched about the ribbon since he was the last family member to ribbon. I know this sounds totally silly, but I was starting to think I would never ribbon again. It has been six months and a number of frustrating close calls. I think I was stuck on unlucky #13. Nice to be back. Thanks for the great comments.

I just took a bunch of images on this thing yesterday. I thought I had seen it in your gallery. I still really like this image. Beautiful amount of blur and sharpness put together in this image.

This makes me dizzy just looking at it. It's very realistic. Looks like you can reach out and touch him. I love how its so clear despite the fact that it was taken from a merry-go-round. Very, very nice. I gave it a nine during the challenge. =)

Awsome shot!

After reading your setup I felt rather ill. Me and merrygrounds have never gotten along. I'm impressed at your ability to stay on one AND take pictures without getting sick!

Congrats! This is an awesome shot! The lines from the grass and sand work really well to make it simple yet vibrant, and Caden's pose is perfect. I was wondering when we'd see you on the front page again!

Congrats on the Red, Doc! Fantastic image. With your short "ribbon-hiatus"... I was beginning to wonder if the 5D was such a good idea after-all ;o)

Many congratulations, Jason! I like it very much how he looks so happy spinning like that, it's good that way.
My question though: How in the world does he manage to keep his runners so sparkly clean? My kid's shoes were always messed up and dirty.

Both technically and emotively excellent. The composition and blurred areas guide the eye for a visually joy ride. I'm also glad the shoes are indiscriminant as far as brand so it doesn't look hokey or commercialized.

Congrats to both of you! Did I call the dancing banana? Turns out it wasn't premature! He resembles his father.

In my town, these toys have been outlawed for "safety" reasons. Cryin' shame.

Now this is spinning! Such a nice image in all aspects. It's refreshing to see the background spinning with the main subject in crisp detail. My first 10: for color, creativity, sweetness, detail, composition, tones, emotive value, and the perfect title!! :)

I had this sort of idea but when I went looking it seems parks in NZ have taken most of them out on "safety" grounds. Silly if you ask me.

Nice shot, love the motion blur and the lights in the shoes!!
